I know that weighing them is the most accurate but a pain to deal with. Found this tool. I understood the principle of operation. The cost was acceptable. This works really well. Take your time using it and this is fairly accurate. I start down low and work my way up. Simple to use and fast. I can pinpoint the location of the Propane fast. The only time I had trouble was when the tank frosted up in cold weather running the heat. Cleaned the tank and dried it fixed that. Very happy with this Review: It works and it works well. - I absolutely love being able to get a solid measure of just where exactly my propane levels are at in either of my 30 pound tanks despite it being below 20 degrees outside. This little device has done that greatly for me in my many checks so far and has helped give me an idea of just how much propane I burn through on any given heavy running night. I chose to pay more and get this Truma level checker vs cheaper ones after finding that those cheaper ones don't always exactly work in temperatures below certain levels, which I was clearly experiencing during this winter. It has done its job and more for me, the mental security that I've more then enough propane to last a day or two vs running out in the middle of the night alone was worth the extra cost. Works on all spots I've tried it barring right on top of the welds in the middle which was pointed out already, from top to bottom it'll give you a solid reading of where your tanks levels are at.

Good level Checker - though not always accurate
I really like this propane level checking device but quickly I discovered it is not always accurate. I checked my son's tank and it told me it was all but empty - turns out it was fairly full. That said, I'm learning that its accuracy depends on how you hold it against the tank and if there is anything like a label to interfere. All that said, I really appreciate having this device and would recommend it if the cost doesn't scare you away.

I can't tell you how great this is for checking levels of propane in my campers
First, It's well made and accurate and easy to use and I say that after using this many times. I know I used "and" too much. I camp often and for weeks at a time. Checking how full the propane bottles are without LevelCheck is a guess at best unless you use the hot water thing or carry a scale around with you to weigh them... Yeah right... Doing either of those methods is a pain, heating water or taking the bottles out the weight them - really does anyone do that? I digress. With this LevelCheck there is no heating water or weighing or taking them out to make an educated guess on the level, just push this against the side of the bottle a few times and you know exactly what's left in the bottle. THANK YOU! Let me say that again, THANK YOU! I no longer stress about how much propane I have left. And let me tell you when you are boondocking you will worry about how much propane you have left since many times the nearest source is far away. OK, I've said enough. I think you get the picture.

Not overly impressed
I have two 7 gallon propane tanks on my 5th wheel trailer. One of them is fairly new the other an older tank. The Truma does not work worth a hoot on the older tank, and works reasonably well on the newer tank. While I can check the new tank adequately sometimes it seems to not want to work until you clean a clean in appearance rubber touch point. To be honest an easier way to measure the propane level is to use an IR hand held laser temperature sensor. If say you are using propane it will gas off creating a cooling effect. The laser temp gun I carry will report the temp as you aim it from top to bottom of the tank. When you reach the level of propane the reported temp will drop about 2 degrees. The only draw back to this method is propane needs to be gassing off to cause the temperature gradient.

Know your propane tank level!
What I love about the “LevelCheck Truma” propane tank level indicator is knowing exactly how much propane is in my tanks for my grill and RV trailer. It’s easy to use, accurate and a great value for the money. It’s especially helpful when camping in cold weather and helps me gauge my propane usage in my RV. It’s provided the information needed to keep me from waking up to a cold morning with no heat. This is a must have for anyone who uses propane tanks for cooking and RV camping.

Couldn't get to work despite trying everything
I read every review, researched it elsewhere on the internet, and then waited to it came in stock to purchase it. BUT, when I tried it, it was totally inaccurate. I have 2-30lb upright propane tanks on my RV camper. They are within the specs of the brochure and they are nearly brand new, so I doubt rust has built up on the inside. Both still have a good amount of propane in them as I rarely use the propane. I tried and tried and tried some more. I finally got a little green light on the one, but if I tried the same spot more than once, it was very inconsistent - sometimes red, sometimes green. So, I went home, got a new battery, and went back to where I store the camper. Same thing. I wiped off the sensor numerous times, I wiped off the tanks so they were clean, nothing worked. I tried to call the phone number on the package for Truma. Couldn't actually talk to anyone - I think it transferred me to Germany. So, I returned the product, and I'm very very disappointed. I really really wanted this product to work. Maybe I received a bad unit, but since I couldn't get in touch with anyone, it's hard to know. Worth a try, maybe yours will work, but be prepared in case you need to send it back - save all your packaging. One more note - I have never given a product a "1" on a rating in my whole life, and I'm sorry I had to do it now.

Very inconsistent
Easy to use. Convenient to store. Very inconsistent. Shows high-low-empty on full, partial and empty tanks. Tried on 4 different tanks, all were aluminum, 10 gallon tanks Result is it is unusable.
