Payback in Death: An Eve Dallas Novel

Fabulous, as always!
I am so “In Love”( unlike “ in death”), with this special series and it’s unique characters. Robb’s writing is so excellent that they have become real to me and I miss them between books! This book, In particular, was trickier and harder to connect the perp/s to victim/s, which was brilliant. The true collegial way Eve’s team works is an ideal I wish police departments everywhere could adopt.I’m glad the “bad”or “dirty cop” issue is addressed, but not taken out of proportion.I have been a police psychologistin LA and this has been a huge issue for us and the image and reputation we have concerning “excessive force” leading to death. I’m glad Robb touches on this issue. There are so many more good and excellent Peace officers than “bad”ones and they encounter more life/death issues every single day that the general public does not recognize.I have always loved that Robb created the character Trueheart to introduce that concept.Every page of Robb’s writing is relevant and there are no “ fillers” to take up unnecessary time and focus. Theses are always, “can’t put down” books. This is true of all of the Nora Roberts books as well! She is one heck of a good writer— top of the top— and I can hardly wait for her next one, especially the “in death” series!!Very highly recommended. You don’t have to, as each book stands on it’s own, but I highly suggest that for your own increasing pleasure, you start from the beginning and enjoy the way Robb develops her beloved characters. There are so many wonderful ones in this series!!Speaking of which, I would love a book with more of Mavis and the “great housing project” that’s occurring now. ( Love that little girl who calls Dallas “das” and Roark “ork”)!!Thank you, Nora for enriching my life! I especially loved the “keys” series with its mysticism and intriguing women!Readers, you will simply have to research this to find the series of three books by Nora Roberts…

Another great solve!
Barely home from their well deserved vacation, Dallas gets a call requesting her presence at the death of Captain Greenleaf, retired from Internal Affairs. Even more surprising is the request came through channels from Webster, his previous second in command. Her relationship with Webster in the past was a bit rocky, so this request was unusual, but she geared up to examine the scene, tentatively pronounced as suicide…a fact Webster adamantly denies. And she soon finds herself agreeing with him, with some subtle errors that stand in the way of suicide. She soon finds herself building a murder case for a man she didn’t particularly like, but who still deserved her standing in for him. Along the way, she learned more about his life in IA, and those cops that took the crooked path, disgracing the badge. I love how her team works to eliminate suspects and gather evidence. And, as always, it’s interesting to follow her thought process in sussing out the clues, especially when she bounces her ideas off Rourke. Can’t wait for the next adventure.

Good
This was book 57 in the "In Death" series. Eve and Roake are back from vacation when she and the team get a new case this time it's one of their own a former cop who at first glance it appears that he killed himself. I liked that this book started with them being on vacation with Roake's family it showed a personal side of Eve. The cop that was murdered was a retired captain of IAB which means he investigated dirty cops. Eve was asked to investigate by another cop from IAB Webster because he believed it wasn't suicide. I love reading this series, but I felt that the book got slow in the middle almost like it was filler. I love the team and how Roake always helps in some way. This case is more procedural it gave a more realistic look at detective work with all the research the team did. I love reading about the secondary characters also. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Love, murder, romance and satisfaction
Like she said, another job finished and put away. And another great job by J. D. Robb. Interesting, fully developed characters and a roller coaster ride to the end. Recommend to all mystery and romance fans.

Double take
I truly enjoyed the irony. The twist and of course her signature 6th sense. As a cop myself I spent many nights following my instincts, I wished they panned out as often as Eves. Thank you for the intimacy of the hunt.

Another great book
I have a huge dilemma with all In Death -books. I'm always super excited about the new one, then I start to read it and almost miss sleeping altogether. Next day I continue the book and then it ends and I'm left thinking 'what now?' Do I really have to wait for months for another great book? Sadly, yes I do. But they are all so worth it.

Brilliant story
Amazing plot and most definitely a page turner. I absolutely couldn’t put it down. Such a well written story that made me fall in love with the series all over again. You can really see the characters growth and the relationships evolving. In this book it took me until almost the last 10% of the book to be able to see how Eve’s hunch could be right. The twist was an actual curve ball. Cannot wait for the next one!
