Works as it should
So far so good. Very well packaged. Pass all tests. Has been working flawlessly in a media server and home security setup for the past month or so.

Drive Failed After Two Weeks
Drive failed after 2 weeks. Received SMART error message from the drive saying it was failing, then it went offline. No amount of coaxing from File Explorer, WD Utillities, or Disk Management could bring it back. Only Disk Management could see the drive (as uninitialized), but it would not initialize the drive. Disk Management said the drive had CRC errors. Installed the drive in a second computer just to make sure it wasn't the SATA interface or the apps/OS - same result. And a spare drive installed in the original computer worked fine. Spent too much time troubleshooting - time to return the drive.

Lasted 42 Days - then Nothing. RMA process is poor.
5/15/25 - Ran this 8TB as my backup drive for a total of 42 days and filled half it's capacity before it just died. Backup was good one night and drive was dead the next. No spinning, no clicking, just dead. Pretty unacceptable for a component that should last many years. Now dealing with a RMA process with conflicting instructions and the burden of paying for shipping, packaging, etc., not too mention the risk of running without a backup while I wait for a replacement. I wouldn't recommend this drive. Update 6/2/25 - I opened an RMA case on 5/15/25, shipped the drive the same day with the 3 day service label purchased during the RMA process. Drive was delivered to the WD site 5/19 (confirmed by UPS and on 5/23 by the WD support team after I emailed them), but no updates on the RMA process website until 5/29 when it's finally marked as received. New drive shows shipped 5/30, but in actuality, it's now 6/2 and UPS shows they haven't received the shipment yet. Probably due to some internal SLA the warranty organization needs to meet in their RMA system, they clearly have manipulated the dates to appear as if they shipped the replacement in a day when in fact they've had the drive for 2 weeks. On top of that, it's shipped Ground.......... Be very wary of the WD warranty replacement process.

I had this HDD for a number of years and was using it to store everything on my old computer. Never had any issues with it whatsoever. Western Digital definitely earned my loyalty with these drives.

DOA! Now updated
Since I bought this in November of 2024, it is past the return period. With all of the wildfires, power outages in my area at the time, I put this on hold. Now that I have time, It is DOA. It will not initialize and has a I/O error. All the research online, they returned for RMA or replacement. I should have listened to the all of the reviews about returning. Waste of money for me. Will try to see if WD will exchange or replace it. Not holding my breath. The warranty went very well. The turn around was quick, shipped UPS right to the door. When I plugged it in, the system did not see it again. Was a bit flustered. So, I tried a different SATA port, nope, different drive bay, nope. Was getting a bit upset. Then I open computer management, it did see it, once I initialized it, it formatted and all is right with the universe. When I was a lab manager for a tech school, we went through drives like free doughnuts. WD was the one that took the abuse the best. I went with 4 stars as I had to warranty the drive, yet the warranty process went very smoothly. Props to WD for great servive

Perfect for media storage!
Great hard drive! I bought this to store my dvds on, and it does the job. Not slow when transferring files, my media player doesn't have issues finding all the files, and of course 8tb is gonna last me a while. It was shipped quickly, and I was worried about packaging at first, but the manufacturer had it packed very securly.

Failed to initialize, so did it's replacement!
IDK how this is possible the drive just doesn't work when it came time to initialize. The first time around, "The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error". Great, I get in touch with support and arrange to get a replacement. So far so good. Imagine my surprise when the second drive had a slightly different error message: "the request could not be completed because of an I/O device error". I've tried quite a few things - replace the cables, check BIOS, install WD Kitfox and CrystalDiskInfo both to see what I could, tried menus in Device Manager, Disk Management, console commands... nothing works and I'm just shocked that this could happen once. I've been a loyal WD customer for all my computers over 15 years - think it's time to move on, sadly

Love the way that this came packaged would take a tiny bomb to damage this the Amazon package was very sturdy as well as the packaging by Western digital. I have had this item for a year and it has been a true lifesaver for me. I use it with my UGREEN drive. I thought that the learning curve on using this would be pretty difficult for someone who doesn't identify as a techie person, but it was very easy to configure and use it has backed up so many of my professional photography, photographs, videos, and memories and I still have plenty of space left on the drive. Will be purchasing this once more when it is fuller. I feel like the quality is right on par for the price and even a little bit exceeds that. Keep an eye out for prime deals and sales, which will make it even more valuable for your arsenal of digital hoarding needs. It seems to run quite quickly, considering my files are up to 42 MB each and I tend to overshoot where it will be 500 to 700 pictures each session. On the multi session day I can upload anywhere from 1000 to 1500 photos in a matter of minutes.

WD Blue 8TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 256MB Cache, I am not a computer cookie; this hard drive works fine for me, has plenty of space for the data to enter, and is fast enough. I am happy about the price too,

I bought a WD blue 8TB drive for backup purpose and experienced file corruption after less than 2 months of use. Unfortunately I am not able to claim warranty because the item was shipped outside the product warranty region. It cannot be returned to Amazon because it is outside the return window of 1 month. This is a new record for me as far as WD hard disks go. The previous one started to fail after 2 years (I expected a good couple of years). This one lasted barely 2 months.
