LuxBird - Reliable and Outstanding
I put the LuxBird and Vivosun heat mats head-to-head. My setup is in an unheated, partially finished basement in zone 6B (ambient temp usually around 62°F - 68°F), so having a mat that can hold temperature is crucial. Overall, the LuxBird is the better quality mat and easily outperforms the Vivosun. Though the Vivosun does have a couple of nice touches. Where Vivosun Wins (Presentation): I’ll give credit — Vivosun wins on packaging. It comes with a nice storage sleeve/bag to keep the mat in when you aren't using it. The printing on the mat itself is also very detailed with good info. Where LuxBird Wins (Everything Else): The LuxBird feels like a more refined, higher-quality product. The mat is thicker, and the cord connection is a solid block that feels and looks much safer and durable Vs the Vivosun. The built-in controller is a huge plus, as is the ability to daisy-chain them. The Performance Test: I ran a test with a cup of water centered on each mat for 4.5 hours to see how they handled the load. * Startup: Both cups at 69°F. Room temp approx 67°F. * The Result: The LuxBird heated up much faster and held a higher temperature. Here is the log I kept during the test: | Time | LuxBird Mat | LuxBird Water | Vivosun Mat | Vivosun Water | | 5 Mins | 102.5°F | 70.5°F | 87.8°F | 69.4°F | | 10 Mins | 108.1°F | 71.9°F | 92.1°F | 69.6°F | | 15 Mins | 109.7°F | 72.6°F | 94.1°F | 69.8°F | | 20 Mins | 110.3°F | 71.6°F | 93.0°F | 69.0°F | | 25 Mins | 112.1°F | 72.1°F | 94.4°F | 71.6°F | | 2.5 Hrs | 116.7°F | 80.2°F | 98.4°F | 76.4°F | | 4.5 Hrs | 118.7°F | 82.9°F | 97.5°F | 75.3°F | Uniformity Check (Corner Temps): I used a heat gun to check the four corners of each mat to see how consistent the heating was across the surface. * LuxBird Spread: 111.2°F (Low) to 118.7°F (High). * Result: A 7.5°F spread, but most importantly, every single corner stayed hot (above 110°F). * Vivosun Spread: 88.3°F (Low) to 97.1°F (High). * Result: A wider ~9°F spread. While the hottest corner was decent, the coldest corner dropped all the way to 88°F. Final Thoughts: I’m starting my peppers and herbs next week, and the LuxBird is definitely the one I’ll be relying on. If you need a mat that actually gets the job done, go with this one.

Very happy with this purchase.
After about a week of using these, in a way that was probably less traditional. Let me explain. I have a 20x24 mini grow tent, and I've been using these 2 pads for the last to weeks to keep not only my seeds germinating in this cold Ohio weather. I've been able to keep the entire little tent a solid 75 degrees? Cold I go higher than that? I don't know, I'm not willing to try. The heat is very warm, and they are super easy to set up. The size is perfect. There is a lot of values for the money here, super functional, and not just with domes trays, these things are just all around great, and the ability to daisy chain. 🤌

Great features easy use!
Fantastic under tank heat for geckos. I got the 4 pack. I was trying to avoid a rack system to give my geckos a better quality of life. Biggest issue I had was getting those temps they need, especially at night. These work fantastic, the thermostat is pretty accurate and makes the setup worry free. The feature I loved the most though, the daisy chain! As a keeper of many animals it is always a struggle with outlet spacing, this allowed me to have 4 enclosures heated with just 1 outlet. I did purchase the extension so I could drop down levels and still just use 1 system. Best heat mats I've come across. I'm sure they would do great with germination or any other application one may need.

Excellent! Worked great for me!
These are awesome and easily connected! I had better results than ever getting my seedlings growing. The only change I made was to add these mats.

Heats VERY unevenly
Super disappointed in this setup. I bought it thinking I was going to be getting a decent kit with the thermostat to control the temperature as needed for different plant types... I was wrong. The first pad in the span is always the most closely aligned temp with the thermometer. The rest are ALWAYS hotter. Some days the second, third, and fourth pads are 10 degrees higher than the thermostat, others it's 20+. Today it was almost 30 degrees off. I had it set at 81 degrees Fahrenheit and the third pad in the run was 109!!! Pictures included for verification. I've noticed days where my plant pots are dry as a bone 24 hours after a water, and other times I can go days before the moisture drops. Waste of a lot of money on this.

LUXBIRD Heat Mats Work Perfectly!!
The LUXBIRD 2 pack 10x20.75 heat mats are a great addition for anybody who is into gardening. Whether you are starting plants for indoor or outdoor these heat mats do a great job. I currently am only using one of the heat mats and I am able to disconnect the second one and store it away until I am ready for it. That is a nice feature that you are able to disconnect the second mat if you don’t need it. These are the perfect size to get plenty of seed starter trays on them. Starting seeds for my outdoor garden this year is going to be a breeze using these heat mats. These are definitely a great value for the money. The hand held controller is very easy to use and the temperature probe works perfectly on the side of a seed starting tray. The growth on my two little plants have taken off since I started using these. I would definitely recommend these!

Great little heating pads, just needs to be shipped flat and not rolled up
At first, upon opening the package, the pads were very stiff and non-pliable but that is just what happens when you roll up 4 pads into a tight roll to fit in the package. Not sure how much more it would cost to ship them flat but it would definitely help. I had them unrolled and in place in the tent but had to weight them down until the plastic relaxed. Now that it's all set up and relaxed, they look awesome. I will use them strictly for my 1020 seed trays. Consistent temps are very important when working with seedlings. They link together fine but if you put them writing side up, the connector where the plug goes into each mat raises it off the round too much so I have them upside-down. All in all, the 'little things' don't matter. They pad will work great and hopefully I will need to buy another set of 4 for my other tent.

Wonderful to be able to start more than 2 trays at a time. Nice digital display.

These work great to get a bit of a jump start on seeds in the Spring. I really appreciate the built-in soil thermometer to help keep the temperature steady. I was using these in an unheated greenhouse and we had a few unseasonal cold snaps after I planted and these did the trick to keep my seeds toasty.

Used these for early 2024 seedlings. They had come bent in the package and were hard to flatten. Worked great for seedlings in early 2024. When I went to get them in late December 2024, the heat mats were rigid. I tried to flatten them without success. They were stiff, not pliable as they had been after use. Plugged them in for a few weeks at 21 degrees Celcius with only one mat having seedlings on top. The heat flattened the mats out. The mats which had no seedlings on top of them were still connected and in a pile. It was fortunate that I noticed the smoke!! One foot high of curling smoke coming from the heat mats. Pile of mats HOT to touch as I unplugged them from the outlet. They are now all stuck together. They went totally rigid after unplugged. FIRE HAZARD!! I now see someone else’s comment that these heat mats started a fire in their RV. Beware!!! I got off lucky. Could have started a fire!
