Lazarus (Stephen Frost) and Dingwall (Mark Arden) are policeman working together for the Really Serious Crimes Squad. Their struggles with the criminal underbelly include such intriguing cases as investigating the murder of a stuntman, trying to track down the pushers of a shipment of cocaine that's turned up in a batch of Colombian cod and a bizarre art installation involving a corpse. Heading up the Really Serious Crimes Squad is the microwave meal loving, part time cinema attendant Chief (Peter Bland). Other colleagues include department git Gary Bateman (Jeremy Gittins), Dingwall's desk based love interest of Beverley Armitage (Race Davies) and two incredibly boring plain clothes detectives (Simon Godley and Neil Mullarkey).

Under-rated, lost comedy genius!
This is a complete lost gem of the 90s and one of my favourite shows ever. (And if I'm not mistaken the first time the phrase 'Does a bear s**t in the woods?' was used?) I have the series on VHS, taped off the TV when first broadcast and was gutted I never found it on genuine VHS sale. I literally had to pinch myself when I found it Amazon on DVD.It's daft, silly, slap-stick, quick-witted, subtle and clever. You'll laugh out loud and groan in equal measure. Each show crams in so much humour that repeat viewing is necessary to catch what you missed. It gets compared to Police Squad, yes the humour/premise is similar but this is unfair. The story goes that Mark & Steve made this series but decided they weren't famous enough to gain viewers on their own merit. They went off and boosted their profiles in the much-loved Carling Black Label lager adverts. In the meantime the Naked Gun spin-off, Police Squad, hit our shores and unwittingly stole Mark & Steve's thunder. So when Lazarus & Dingwall was finally released it was unfairly viewed as a poor man's copy. It is not! It's original, genuinely hilarious British humour that should be viewed as such. (Lots of times!)

Don't read my review, JUST BUY IT!!!!
One of the funniest comedies ever made. Lots of word play, silly plot lines and schoolboy humour. It's great the the BBC have finally released this. Think Police Squad with a good dollop of Comic Strip, this is the general tone of the series. You'll probably remember the two lead actors from the Carling Black Label adverts, you're in for a treat, their comedy acting is on top form.Best line in the series 'Mumbo Dumbo....' (I won't spoil it for you)

It truly deserves about ten stars but alas, the BBC gets greedy once more....£18 for a tv show that was on nearly 25yrs ago??
I have been waiting for this to be released on DVD for years. Its one of the BBC's funniest ever series. Mad, irrelevant & sometimes occasionally just plane bonkers, as some have already suggested its a kind of UK version of Police Squad, so if you liked that you'll almost certainly like this.It truly deserves about ten stars but alas, the BBC gets greedy once more. £18 for a tv show that was on nearly a 1/4 of a century ago? Sorry, no.
