My favorite Dinobot, reinvented!
As an owner of the original G1 Snarl ages ago, this new Deluxe Class version compares favorably. The tail section is much more solid this time around; I remember a bit of transparent yellowish plastic in the G1 version that was always threatening to break. The Deluxe Class Snarl even has some back plates that can fold to make room for some of the tranformation steps. The head and legs are very solid and stable. And we like the clear sword that replaces the red, rubbery sword of the original version.A couple of notes. Transforming Snarl can be pretty tricky for your youngster. You may need to help with some of the steps, particularly the steps involving Snarl's legs, consisting of the front part of the dinosaur torso and the head. The back portion of the legs open and close, unlike the back of the legs for Sludge and Slag. For Snarl, there's a little enclosure on both legs that has to close up to seal the front part of the dinosaur body. It'll take some practice for kids to do it properly. After closing up the read side of the legs, there is a peg in the middle that needs to nestle into the front half of the legs, which corresponds to the upper body in dinosaur mode (still on the front half of the body). If that peg doesn't go in, and the leg enclosures are still a bit open, you'll find it difficult to flip up Snarl's dinosaur head. Keep at it!Regardless of the tricky transformation, we think the Dinobot is an excellent toy. Very sturdy and reminiscent of the original, which is a good sign. Snarl comes with the Dinobot, an armor piece that will play a role in the formation of the combiner, the character card, and his familiar sword.

The loner of the group
In a tight-knit group of outsiders like the Dinobots, there has to be an outsider. Snarl is an unhappy, antisocial loner. He grudgingly follow orders and rarely speaks. He hates his stegosaurus form and feels he may never see Cybertron again. It is only in battle where he is happy, able to let got of his worries and fears with violence. It is for this reason that he revels in combat more than the other Dinobots. So, here we have another Dinobot in Snarl. Once again, we get the classic look and colors that match his look from the 80s and it's perfect. Like the rest of the Dinobots, he is pretty simple to transform. He wields a clear plastic sword that has a different hilt than the Swoop's sword, and can wield it pretty well. Not gret, but good enough considering some articulation issues Transformers figures have.He may be a loner, but find him a spot on the Autobots and with the Dinobots, because I recommend him.

What you'd expect from Hasbro
Overall a great figure. Amazon was also the only place that had this "pre-order" figure in stock. We purchased all of the Power of the Primes dinobots for my daughter for her birthday. Build quality is what you would expect for a mass produced toy with small intricate parts. Transformation is more complicated than some (even larger) Transformers due to the combiner capability of it. This is the Hasbro figure, so it's definitely "toy quality." If you're looking for collector quality, buy the Takara Tomy figure and not the Hasbro figure.

Snarl
Being an 80s kid, my love for transformers started when my father sat me down infront of the tv to watch the cartoon. It kept me quiet at the age of 1 and both my father and i enjoyed the show. Now that i am in my 30s i have become a collector and now that the Generations line of toys have gone back to the G1 era paint scheme the Dinobots, from the Power of the Primes series is a must have, granted the original G1 Dinobots are actually bigger however the 80s toys a lot less difficult to transform from robot to their alt mode. Now a days the smaller the scale and the more technical the transformations have become which is not a bad thing and now that the Dinobots have more of a purpose in the story driven machinima show Snarl is just 1 part of the powerful combiner Volcanicus! Whether you decide to make him the right of left leg or arm, he should be a must own in everyones collection.

Jealousy of my kid
I got this along with the other Dinobots for my son, and I'm kinda jealous. This series has turned out to be a very good update on several old G1 toys, and now my boy has the full set AND of course the can combine.

He’s a fun figure but I do not like the soft rubber ...
He’s a fun figure but I do not like the soft rubber used for his spines. Mine were warped a bit and the tail can’t tab together. Overall I like the figure but there could have been improvements.
