Jackiem burst onto the scene with his 'babysoul' on the tiny ARTizen imprint. His second, 'Lil' Man Soul' on Artistry Music, exploded his pop/urban melodies across the breadth of contemporary jazz consciousness via two #1 singles ('I'm Waiting For You' and 'Take Me There') which have together logged at this writing a total of over 21 weeks at the apex of the charts. His newest, the eponymous 'Jackiem Joyner', boasts yet more radio friendly tracks including the single 'Dance With Me.' The young composer/producer also stretches into new territory with the Slash-like guitar burn of 'Push' and the synchopated marching band drum opening of 'The Reunion'. All are sure to be favorites on the Joyner concert trail as he maintains double duty with both his bands as part of Keiko Matsui's outfit. As ever, Jackiem eschews the trends of big-name producers and guests stars, and does almost all of it himself - playing, producing and composing. There are a couple covers: Aerosmith's 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' and the King of Pop's own 'Off The Wall', and a guest guitar solo from Paul Jackson Jr. on 'Turn It Up' (which he captured while both were on tour in Reading, PA).

This is a very good CD. If half stars were available I would ...
True Story folks. First of all let me say this. This is a very good CD. If half stars were available I would give it a 4.5 star rating. Okay let us get to the story. Now all my friends know that I like Jazz. So my best friend from High School tells me one day that she has a cousin (2nd or 3rd), she wasn't sure, that was a very good up and coming Jazz artist. I ask her what his name was and she couldn't quite remember so she called her aunt and her aunt tells her his name was Jackiem Joyner. Okayyyyyy, I'm thinking wow that's very cool and you both have the same last name. So I told her that I would look him up. Boy, was I surprised. This kid is good! That's crazy right. I went ahead brought his "Lil' Man Soul" and I hope it's just as good.

An up & coming saxophone legend!
Jackiem Joyner has now made three studio CD's and I have all three of them; while I have truly enjoyed the previous 2, this is by far his best CD. This CD features instrumentations not heard in the previous two CD's and there's not one song on this new CD that won't have you dancing to the up-beat tunes or grooving to the balladic sounds of his smooth saxophone! I highly recommend this CD and would love to see this artisit perform live in concert!

Place on Your list of great Contemporary Jazz Players
Love how Jackiem Joyner is daring to mix a hip R&B sound with Sax Jazz without a lot of vocals. The best change in music because this genre's music can tend to sound all alike from one artist to the next. Others need to sit down and think of some different sounds to mix with their wind and string instruments-- and make sure to purchase Joyner's "Baby Soul" CD. You'll love it!

I had a chance to meet jackiem in Seattle night club in 2010 while visiting a buddy of mine. I have since seen and met him again and was still blown away by his horn

Good stuff
I must confess I did not discover Jackiem's music until quite recently and already, I have purchased 3 of his albums. I first got his Baby Soul album which was quite good. I was not quite sure what to expect but was pleased with the quality of his groove; his music. I then got his Lil' Man Soul album and couldn't help but wonder wether or not Jackiem was taking us all on a journey. First baby, then lil' man. The third album I got was the self titled Jackiem Joyner. That answered my question. The man was here. The groove was rich, the kind that made you feel good. I love Jackiem's music and I am sure you will too.
