Best splint for Plantar Faciitis!
I did a lot of research on night splints because I've been suffering from plantar faciitis for 6 months now. I've seen a podiatrist, I'm currently in PT, I've changed shoes to ones with better support, etc. One of the suggestions to promote healing is the use of a night splint to keep my foot in a "neutral" postion while sleeping. I've tried a couple of different splints that are fabric with velcro, and the part that is supposed to hold your foot in place is ABOVE the foot. You essentially need to strap yourself in pretty tightly to keep your foot stable and attached to that top piece. Problem is, that tension hurts after an hour or so, and made my foot go numb. They can't work if you can't wear them for an extended period of time.I ordered this unit because it's rigid and supports the foot from below. GAME CHANGER. It did a great job of comfortably holding my foot stable. The very first night of use, I didn't use the wedge piece (which I will work up to) and I was able to wear it all night. Because it had clips and doesnt rely on velcro, it's super easy to put on and take off. In the morning, my foot was noticeably better!I'd like to address a couple of concerns I saw in other reviews:First off, you dont need to strap in tightly. I doesn't take much to stabilize your foot. The comfort level was much better because of this.Secondly, some units rely completely on velcro. This unit has buckles so you adjust your velcro, but then you can just use the clips for easy on and easy off.Thirdly, I almost bought a slightly cheaper splint that LOOKED the same as this one, but I noticed it had been flagged by Amazon as "frequently returned". When I zoomed in, I saw that on that unit, the straps didnt have reinforcement where they attach to the plastic, so they ripped off easily. This unit has reinforced attachment points.Lastly, I saw a person complain that this unit cracked when she tried to walk in it. Yes- there is a piece underneath it that seems to indicate you can walk with it on, but...just don't. It's a night splint, not a foot cast. It's so easy to pop it off to run your "errand" (I throw on a pair of crocs when I have to get up in the middle of the night) and just throw it back on before you tuck back in. Walking in a "cast" with your movement restricted is promoting improper use of your foot and leg muscles and is actually worse for you. TAKE IT OFF lol!Anyway, I love this splint and wished I had trusted my gut and bought it first. It would have saved me time and money, and I might be further along in my healing. I highly recommend it!

Adjust the foam pad!
The fit is definitely odd at first - I wear a women's 8 shoe and ordered a small based on the size chart. The brace itself would fit a size 8 shoe, but the foam wedge that is in the brace is an inch or more shorter than the brace itself. I wore it this way the first night and it was very uncomfortable, making my toes numb. The second day I realized the foam wedge was removable/adjustable. I adjusted it so it's aligned with the edge of the brace so my toes are supported now and its MUCH better! I'm wearing it with the lower two straps pretty loose as I adjust to it, but I do like the feeling of support and gentle/adjustable stretch that it provides with the foam foot pad. Time will tell if it helps relieve my pain. My one complaint is that I have quite muscular calves, and the calf portion of the brace is quite molded. It's not tight enough that it hurts or cuts off circulation, but it's certainly more snug than I would maybe like.

Much better than the shorter soft versions out there
Bought a shorter soft brace and it wouldn't stay in place and was absolutely useless. Bought this one and it actually holds your foot in place like it should, it can be tightened to close the angle but too far will cause a pressure point and numb toes. After a couple days I had more relief than I did using the other brace for weeks. It can be walked in for short distances but you can get into and out of it very quickly if you need to go very far. Bottom is slick if you are walking on tile. Dogs drooled some water on my floor and I went ice skating for a few feet. Can be slept in depending on how you sleep. Brace leg down on your side creates a little knee twist. Back sleepers or brace leg up on your side, I could sleep all night. Stretching every few hours during the day, then wearing this evening or sleeping worked best. I would recommend.

Night splints keep the foot in a fixed position overnight and stretches the plantar fascia
I went for about a year and my tendon wouldn't heal. Then I ordered this device and used it for about a month at night while I slept and the tendon finally healed!! Yay! I think the key to this device is your foot is kept in a position that stretches the tendon out and keeps it there for 8 hours a day (while you sleep). Night splints like this one are used to keep the foot in a neutral position overnight that stretches the plantar fascia and achilles tendon to prevent that stupid morning pain!
