Great family activity! Excellent product!
My 5+ daughter chose this lego set when we were browsing online. I was hesitant at first to buy it because it was so girlie. However, it turned out to be cleverly designed and educational. There are a lot of pieces and easy to follow instruction booklet. Once my daughter started learning how it worked she was able to put together some of the parts on her own. It was a fun family activity. And, of course, now she loves playing with it!

Finally, Legos specifically for girls!
My five-year old has loved Legos for years now (she has a teenage big brother who helped her build when she was too little). These Friends sets are fabulous, and this Beauty Shop is particularly cute with the mini lipsticks and salon chair. We have bought most of the sets now, and the only real complaint I have is that they don't seem to stay attached to each other like the other Legos do. For example, in the two story house, the stories pop off one another easily. Other than that, it's a great idea, and tons of fun for girls.

Fun Set for Girls, Fairly Complicated For Young Kids
I love that Lego is trying to appeal to more girls with their new line of girl Legos: Lego Friends. They have a pretty decent-sized variety out already of Lego Friends sets. We started with this one and the details are very cute. The instructions are pretty easy to decipher, but a younger child will have difficulty putting it together on their own. If the child does not have experience putting together Lego sets with directions, I would plan on needing to assist them. The downfall with Lego sets now-a-days is that there isn't a lot of room left for creativity. A lot of the pieces are molded and designed so that they easily complete the set, but don't have a lot of functionality outside of the original design. In order for the beauty shop to be successfully put together, you need to follow the directions and put it together as instructed. Girls could use the pieces to attempt to be more creative and build something on their own, however they may get frustrated by the lack of basic building blocks. The pieces are specially designed to be fairly easy to complete the set, but there aren't a lot of the basic building blocks in the set to really expand on the original idea. There also isn't as much to do with the beauty shop as one would hope. Once you get it all put together, it becomes a pretty tight shop without much room for the Lego people to really move around and "play". Overall, I think Lego has a great concept here, but they may want to brainstorm ideas for how to allow for more creativity in their sets.

Gift for 6Y old girl
It was my daughter first lego (excluded "baby lego"), she dreams about it for long time. At first moment she was so excited, after that she doesn't know how to play with it. I have to help her all the time, after 2 weeks lego was under bed and nobody cares about it. I think this is great for girls with some experience in built lego or for more "boyish" girl.

Thank you Lego!
Let me start off to say that I have a boy and girl, both 5 that love lego's. I started them both off with the larger version and then moved them to the smaller "pink" and "blue" containers. They would share pieces and have a great time, whether or not it was for a girl or boy. My son has received most of the lego toys, airplanes, starwars kits, Harry Potter for this Christmas, but my daughter has delighted more in building them. She didn't care if it's a "boy" toy, it's all about the building. So at first I wasn't sure about friends because I wanted to make sure it didn't get to "girly". Because she has alot of lego experience building she has done 98% of this one herself. She started the beauty shop tonight and will complete it tonight, she is having a magnificent time discovering all the pieces, after all she is a girl so she loves the lipsticks the hair decorations etc. She just came up to me to show me how the mirror and the chair moves. She also loves the dollar bill:) And I do like the figures, they are what a girl wants and as long as the boy and girl lego's all fit on the same bases I'm just fine.I don't think my son will really want to play with the beauty set, but I definately see a meeting with Lego Darth Vadar and Emma in the Harry Potter castle at some time:)Thanks Lego and please keep it up! I know my daughter will, we also got her Olivia's house and she'll be starting on it tomorrow.

fun lego kit
this was a really fun lego kit to put together. it was a bit hard for my daughter to do on her own. She is 6 yrs old and this was her first lego set. There are lots of pieces and a lot of steps in the directions. but we had fun building together

Can you say "tiny pieces"?
I bought this for my granddaughter and was very surprised at how tiny the parts were. She's 6 so it wasn't a matter of saftety, but few pieces and larger size would have been a better value.
