Listen To Your Heart. It's the late '60s and the British Invasion has conquered the world! The Liverpool Sound tops the charts in every country, except in Ireland, where traditional Irish music still reigns supreme! But could the unthinkable happen? Could an upstart Irish band from Liverpool win the All Irish Music Championship for the first time in history? Transplanted Irishman Jimmy McMahon (Colm Meany) and his motley English crew have their hearts set on it. Meanwhile, back in County Clare, Ireland, Jimmy's stalwart older brother, John Joe (Bernard Hill) and his feisty local band are determined to win the trophy for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, Clare's star fiddler, Anne (the radiant music icon Andrea Corr of The Corrs family band), chafes under her mother's rules against dating - especially when her eye lands on Teddy (Shaun Evans), Liverpool's star flute player. They are Ireland's answer to Romeo and Juliet. The film weaves these timeless themes of discord - star-crossed lovers, feuding brothers, narrow-minded parents and rebellious children - with the passion all the characters share for the music they play. And, against a backdrop of amber-lit pubs, narrow streets and sandy shores, the visuals keep pace with toe-tapping soundtrack and reflect the honor and traditions at stake in the competition.

The Boys And Girl From County Clare
As a fan of the Corrs I bought this film out of curiosity to view how Andrea Corr would act, but surprisingly I got a good funny movie.Jimmy (played by Colm Meaney) comes over from swinging (the film is set in the 60's) Liverpool to win the Irish ceilidh band contest, while his brother Johnjoe (played by Bernard Hill) comes from county Clare to reclaim the Ceilidh band title. Anne (Andrea Corr) is Johnjoe's star fiddler, but kept firmly under thumb by her embittered mother Maise (Charlotte Bradley). Trouble ensues, as estranged brother Jimmy attendance rakes up the past, whilst much Irish music is played!Andrea Corr acts with sincerity and charm. Bernard Hill is charismatic as bachelor Johnjoe. Also Shaun Evans should be commended for keep love struck Teddy genuine and grounded. Boys and Girl from County Clare might not be that innovative but it is a delightful film that is entertaining to watch and worth giving ago. It might just surprise you !

Not exactly "The Quiet Man"
Once you get over the fluent use of the F Bomb in their day to day conversation (it must be Irelands favoritest adjective but it has a different effect than when used on "The Sopranos") then it's kind of like a Hallmark movie with a lot of good Irish music and one-word profanity (yup, it has a happy ending, but you get that feeling about halfway through the movie, so a "spoiler alert" isn't really necessary, and in Irish movies you have to figure out who's happy anyway). A few familiar faces in the cast, but most notable is Shaun Evans (plays "Endeavor") - it is his film debut. 2003.I saw this on Amazon Prime, I enjoyed it so much I had no choice but to order it. It's supposed to be a Comedy...I think...maybe a musical comedy? It also has occasional drinking and barfing. My ancestors would be so proud. I love it!

very real
Having been to some of these gatherings I can tell you its very similar to this, maybe not the love intrigue but the general feel of the environment. Great cast and lovely story line. I really enjoyed it and I wonder do you find your self repeating peter piper after it? Just to get it right.

Lovely film
There is nothing “not to like” in this film. Gentle story with lovely music & a real feel good factor. What a gem - you have to look for them sometimes in Prime but they are there.......great cast!

Made us laugh and cry.
Great feel good movie, with some lovely actors. Great relationships, humour, and a twist near the end. Good to see Endeavour Morse in his younger days too.

Irish fun at the best. I really enjoyed this movie. I will watch it again and again maybe once a year just to get to hear the real Irish music and accents!

Great movie!
Funny, authentic, and a good reminder of how the timeless never changes. This one is a keeper. Its probably not something most people will "like" per se, but for those of us whose hearts already beat to the ceili drum, then this one is for you!I had a friend tell me that this review was too spare, so let me add a few more things to it:1. It appears to be mostly shot on location, with great backdrops of both town and countryside, which to me is a plus.2. The music is authentic. If you like this kind of music (which I personally love), then it will inspire you to watch it more often. My only regret is that I cannot find a soundtrack for the movie on itunes.3. Its a funny and light-hearted movie which is uplifting and puts a smile on the face. But, for those of us with some personal relationship to the events, or with family that once lived in that place and time, its also a slightly melancholy reminder of what once was, and may yet be lost to the march of consumerism and cultural decay. I would even go so far as to say that, in my personal opinion, ethnocide is a very real thing that has happened in Ireland over many centuries, most of it overt, and some of it from a lack of will to fight against it over several generations. This movie is inspiring, then, to those of us who still have the will to fight against it. IT is a testament to a slice of time and space where culture and tradition and community still existed (and in some places, still does). It is a hopeful movie for that reason.4. This is a great family movie, BUT, there are a couple of scenes (very brief) that were needless and instead a bit gratuitous. My kids still watched it with my wife and I - but we skipped one scene since the adults had pre-screened the movie first. Aside from that one minor issue, the movie is a perfect family movie.

Humour close to "Waking Nef Devine."
We like this movie. Much like Waking Ned Devine but with a whole lot more "colourful" language. A good story line with lots of laughs, great Irish music plus some good moral lessons.
