Wonderful book
Wdonderful to start with the human figure, remember that is a book from 1.943 with different techniques than those of today, excellent fot those who wnat to draw anime and manga later, also for ilustrators. What I dichn¨t like is that it is not made in the United States.

This book is perfect. It is a great source to use for teaching yourself or teaching others how to draw and illustrate the head and hands. Great resource for drawing all ages, not just female models. There are instructions for drawing older and younger people. Real people It's perfect.

Helpful book for striving beginning artists, but a bit dated.
This is the classic how-to book on drawing figures. I have found it helpful, but often confusing. 50s illustrations are a bit funky, but I like them for their simplicity. I recommend the book in conjunction with YouTube videos on the “Loomis Method”, esp. ones by Proko.

Worth every dime
This is not a how to book. It won't give you step by steps on how to draw a face. It's not simple. It's not easy. It is mostly theory and information. It is, in my opinion, the best reference book on how to draw hands and faces ever made. You will not ever find a book that says "do it like this and this and it will be perfect every time!" because ever subject, every pose is different. The lighting is different. There are subtle differences in the way emotions change faces and hands. So, in order to know how to draw these things you've got to fundamentally understand them-the theory of them. It's not easy. Even professizonal figurative artists have a hard time once in a while. However, you're not going to find another book that is a better book on explaining the processes and means behind drawing these things. It's a dry read but so worth it. Get it. Watch some YouTube videos. Take some classes and GO MAKE ART.

Amazing book but DO NOT BUY IT ON DIGITAL!!!
I’m giving this book 5 stars because the content is simply amazing but as a digital book it’s horrible. I bought it on for my kindle app and the pictures are tiny. It’s really hard to see what the author is describing in his illustrations because no matter how much I enlarged the text , the pictures just get a tiny bit bigger. Unfortunately, on my kindle app, it didn’t let me even zoom in so I was just stuck. I tried it on my iPad Pro and on my iPhone 13 pro. It was the same thing. I returned my purchase and ended up ordering it as a paperback instead.
