but nothing like NYC potholes
I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews of disaster. Cellphone flying out of clip, ball joint breaking..etc. So I put an old phone that was laying around in this thing and rode 3 times-each about 20-25 miles over regular roads. Some a little bumpy, but nothing like NYC potholes. Flawless after 3 rides so I now did the acid test with my $400 Moto. So far so good. We went over a pretty good bump causing my water bottle to fly out of my Topeak trunk and the phone stayed solid. Other thing is I wouldn't overtighten the collar for the ball joint with any tool. Hand tight won't hold it in place that well, but if put in a position that is almost parallel with the sky/ground, it stays like that. I tried angling it slightly down and it's fine, however if angled too low, the bumps will eventually move it to a perpendicular position. However the almost parallel position is fine for me. Cheap enough to try out but it's still weird to be using a $8 item on a $400 device...but so far it's fine

It works well in both a landscape and portrait position ...
It works well in both a landscape and portrait position. It is important to make sure you tighten the screws appropriately, as well as the lockdown of the adjustment ball. DO NOT try to adjust it while riding, and it might be helpful to have a third hand to hold the phone and clip while you are tightening the locknut in position. If you want to switch your phone's orientation, you will have to re-adjust it, which is why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5. However, it does hold the phone rather securely.Holds my Nexus 6 (in a TOAST wood case) and my wife's iPhone 6+(in a case) securely while we ride. We ride on the street and on paved bike trails. If you are doing dirt or trail riding, I would look at something else, however, as big bumps would probably cause an issue.

Dependable
I was a little cautious about using this mount for the first time, but have been surprised by its dependable performance: it has never once dropped my phone!Pros: good, reliable hold--grippy rubber and strong springs never drop phone Pivot allows you to rotate the phone freely, even when on the move Quick mounting and removal of mount Instant mounting and removal of phoneCons: the pivot joint is designed to display your phone at an angle, thereby limiting the movement a little the knobs used to tighten the pivot joint and bracket are rather difficult to turn for Galaxy S4 users: the placement of the clamp lines up perfectly with your power button, so be careful when you mount your phone, or you might lock the screen or turn your phone off!

Simple clip-based phone mount works great.
This cell phone mount is a simple product that does its job very well. It basically consists of a hinge-based mount to attach to a bike and a clip that holds your phone. The clip is strong with rubber grippers. It's able to hold my phone tightly over bumps and also accommodates my large Galaxy S3 as well as my wife's iPhone 5S.The clip is mounted to the anchor portion with a ball joint and a coupling that is used to tighten the ball joint to prevent the clip from any unwanted spinning. The ball joint provides adequate freedom to place a phone in portrait or landscape mode. The anchor portion uses a hinge system to mount itself to the bike. There are 3 places of varying heights for the hinge to sit as to accommodate different sized handlebars or frames. The hinge is then fastened with a screw that has a plastic sort of wingnut on the end. No screwdriver necessary. A rubber filling sits inside the hinge to provide a secure grip on the handlebar. In all, it took about 2 minutes to figure the product out in order to mount on the bike. The rubber filling was not secured to the hinge in any way, so we almost lost it. Without it, I don't think the mount would be able to hold itself upright on the handlebars.I wouldn't trust the clip to hold my phone on a rough mountain bike trail, but it does a great job over light terrain like road and worn trails.Overall, it's a simple design that I would easily recommend to others.

Disappointed
It looks like it could be a good product for certain phones but that was not the case with my phone. I used it with a Note 2 with a zerolemon extended battery so the phone was definitely bulkier than normal but the best I could get was 2 somewhat strong contact points; never all four no matter how I tried to manipulate it. Phone fell off twice on the first use. Returning it.

Not for bumpy trails
The mount was easy to attach and provided ample flexibility for a variety of phones at a variety of viewing angles on my bike. Unfortunately I ride a bumpy route to work and I found that with the weight of my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S5) the mount would slightly rotate when I went over these bumps. I tried to tighten it more and more but still the problem continued. So...this is not intended for the mountain bikers out there, but otherwise a great product.

Works as intended!
I have used this for a summer to ride with my iphone 5 and it has held the phone in place. I have used an extra band to hold it just in case I hit a large bump but so far I don't think I have needed the extra band. For the price this is a good mount but I would be very careful going over curbs or large bumps just to be safe.

Works great on my Harley! UPDATED REVIEW!
Great product at a great price! Easily and quickly mounted on my Harley Davidson handlebars. I've been using for about three weeks now, works great with my Nuvi GPS and iPhone. I was a bit nervous about putting my iPhone on this mount, but after several hundred miles of riding, I have no worries. Has a very strong spring, clam style grip with rubber on the inside to protect your device and to keep it from any slippage. Highly recommend this product.UPDATE: While riding my Harley at about 70 MPH down the highway, my GPS along with the holder went flying off my handlebars. It broke behind the spring clip where it attaches to the mounting bracket. With all the cars on the highway and most likely damaged from flying onto the highway, I did not bother trying to retrieve my GPS. Upset I lost my Garmin, I guess you get what you pay for.
