NOT FOR DOGS! These are for livestock.
I cannot believe I am seeing people are buying this to groom dogs with. This is NOT for dogs! It is for livestock! Using this on a dog could have serious consequences, not the least being that the blades get very extremely hot very extremely fast! But these shears can cause serious cuts on your dog. Please do not use these on dogs. If you need a dog grooming clipper try the Oster clippers that are actually made for dog grooming such as the Oster A5 which is a great clipper. I've been using my Oster Golden A5 for over 30 years and it's still going strong. Now for the review on the shearmaster shears.I have Pygora goats and these shears cut through their hair like butter. But, my goodness these get heavy! They do the job they were meant to do but they do tend to get hot really fast. I keep a can of clipper blade coolant on hand and spray the blades quite often. It took me a while to figure out how to get the blades on and adjust the tension correctly. Once I did it a few times it got pretty easy. When it got dull, I switched to a new blade and couldn't figure out why they were still dull even with a new blade. After getting frustrated that I couldn't shear my goats, I went online and did some research and discovered that I also needed to change the cutter. I didn't have one on hand, so I had to order a new one before I could shear my goats. Now I have a supply so that I can have some sent off to be sharpened while still having some on hand.Once I worked out all the kinks, this shear has been a really good shear. We have been shearing the goats twice a year for three years now and have had no problems with these shears.

Quality is worth the price.
Bought a cheap pair a few years ago. They were awful. Pulled the hair, took forever, got so hot the animal was uncomfortable. Finally bought these and wow. They cut like butter and don't get hot.

5 sheep sheared, switch failed
The media could not be loaded. Switch failed after 5-3/4 sheep. The prior two sets had hundred each. This is not my first set of clippers, yet I am out $400 dollars and no way to return or replace.Update:After jumping through several hoops, I was able to get a warrranty repair through Oster. Revised my review/rating

Not Worth Your Frustration
I have had NOTHING but trouble with these clippers. Returned the first pair because they didn't work. Got a shearer in 2014 after the debacle in 2013 with the shears so never actually opened these until this spring (2015) out of shear necessity. I have used them twice this season and they seemed to have overheated and busted, now there is something rattling around inside it, it's hot as heck and I had to finish shearing a half a sheep with a pair of Fisker scissors. To say that I am upset might be a bit of an understatement at this point in time. If you have ever sheared a sheep with a pair of Fiskar scissors would would understand my displeasure. I have sheared 1.5 sheep with this pair of clippers and they are now not working. If I could give this product a 0 I would! And on top of loosing $280 on these clippers I have to go get a shearer. If Jarden takes it upon themselves to stand behind their product, I will amend my review at that time. That being said, this is the second pair of dysfunction shears I have gotten.

Wish it was not broken.
This item was purchased as a used item. This is okay, except, when the shears arrived they were filthy. No attempts at cleaning them were made, so they had caked on scum stuck to the blade and cutter from having been used on dirty livestock. There were also several teeth broken off of the blade. The worst factor, however, is that the power switch was also broken. It would not remain in the on position, so that it required me to depress it continuously to keep the shears on. The best factor is that there was paperwork included that directed me toward the Oster warranty department. It means more money to repair the shears, but luckily for me, they are reparable. Ultimately, after the repair costs and replacement blade, there is no savings from purchasing these used as I ended up paying what I would have for new shears. What I learned in this transaction is, I should have considered the price as an indicator. Buyer beware!

Awesome power!
Goes through our angora goats hair like a hot knife through butter! Made a real tough chore go much faster and saves the goats and the farmer from stress:) They are not light weight so handling these isn't super easy but once you get used to them these are the best!

Great for BIG dogs!
We have a Saint Bernard and a trip to the groomer costs in excess of $125. At our last visit we learned the groomer was using this product to trim our big girl so we purchased our own and started trimming her ourselves. A word of caution: If you're using this shear to trim a large dog you have to be VERY careful! This isn't like using dog grooming shears. The shears have razor sharp, pointy blades and it's a good idea to talk to someone who has sheared sheep or the like to get some tips or even wacth them handle the product. You can seiously hurt your pet if you don't know what you're doing. The product is excellent.
