Messengers: The Guitars of James Hetfield

For those of us that spent many years scouring the internet for any new pic of James' rig, for any new piece of info about his settings and his amps.......this is the book we've always wanted. Where Papa Het used to be extremely secretive about his rig, now he's literally an open book. 400 pages of high quality images of his most famous and prized guitars close up and from different angles, in depth personal commentary on each guitar from Het himself as well the artists and luthiers (such as Kenneth Lawrence) involved in their creation. he also goes deep into his amps at the back of the book. It's obvious James was intimately involved with this book in every way. It's an art book at the end of the day. Trust me, if you're Hetfield fan and were ever obsessed with his gear.......just drop the $80 and get it. It's everything you ever wanted.

If you are a fan of James Hetfield's guitars spanning the different decades, then this book is for you. Each guitar featured in the book has a few pages, some more than others to describe the guitar, its history, what album/song/tour (if applicable) it was used for, damage, repairs, modifications, why James likes/dislikes (tone wise) a certain guitar, pictures of him playing the guitars live, in the studio, etc, etc, etc. And of course, beautiful detailed pictures. There is a good amount of pages dedicated to his amps, too, which is equally cool.

My mom got this one for me, for Christmas 2023. As someone who has been a Metallica fan for the last 20+ yrs, this book is a must have! James Hetfield is the reason I play guitar, and to be able to see his iconic guitars, up close and personal, is a dream come true. Each guitar is pictured with multiple shots of each guitar, with stories from James, of how he acquired each guitar, and or who built it for him. Also has all the specs, of each one, as well as stories from the guitar techs, as well as the builders of his guitars. All in all, an excellent book for the Hetfield fan. Book is extremely well made and will last a long time. Buy it!

I bought this book because I know one of the dealers who supply both James and Kirk with vintage guitars and I research Korina Explorers and this book gives the serial number of James Hetfield's 1962 Gibson Korina Explorer which is only found in this book. The book also gives out the fact that Gibson found the shipping ledgers for the 1958/59/60s Korina Guitars as they show a few photos of the ledgers.

Got this for my father in law for his birthday. He first saw Metallica when he was in high school. Out of his 2 sons I am now the favorite child 😁

An absolutely glorious book and hardcover featuring the most important pieces of gear of one my all-time guitar heroes, and truly a book that illuminates the gear history and modifications that were done by James Hetfield to all of the guitars he cherishes and has used throughout the years, along with the amps he's also used, and again it's enlightening to learn the actual specs and the personal stories of all of the guitars, from EET F*K to Carl the Ken Lawrence Explorer built with a top from wood from the literal garage they rehearsed in Carlsbad. Absolutely worth it for the Metallica fan or absolute guitar gear nerd in you or your loved ones.

As soon as I saw the Mighty Hetfield himself do an unboxing of this book on YouTube,I knew I had to have it,it looked so cool. Well delivered by Amazon for a start, well packaged and secure and delivered in a timely manner The book itself hasn't disappointed. Sumptuous and highly detailed photos of James's guitars; marks, battle scars and custom engravings and stories of how each instrument was obtained, conceptualised and built are really interesting and often very humorous The story of the Kill Bon Jovi guitar in particular made me chuckle Nice to hear inputs too from craftsmen and artists, luthiers- especially Ken Lawrence- and the technicians on Metallicas staff. Along with Hetfields own philosophies and his reflections of a life time spent in music Pricey,yes indeed,but most definitely worth it Speaking as a huge metal and rock fan and a guitarist and a lifelong Metallica fan; highly recommended
