If you need a small, packable emergency radio, this may be your inexpensive solution.
Summary: If you need a small, packable emergency radio, this may be your inexpensive solution. It was ours. It will be used for camping and a tsunami bag, and possibly for the coming Zombie Apocalypse. Physical construction: This is a better item than I expected it to be. It's pretty well-constructed overall. Smaller parts such as as the volume wheel and tuner may be a little weak, but their flat design protects them from most abuse. Seals are quite good, plastic body likely will survive being dropped, but I'm not sure how many times. Solar cell is slightly recessed and seems pretty well-seated. Hand crank is robust enough to last for quite awhile. The flashlight is bright enough to read by easily, and has a very white LEDs. You should be able to walk in the dark using it. The antennae is slim and could be broken so it needs to be stored in its rest when not in use. Performance: Although the tuner will drift a little, it's easy to get decent reception and solid, clear audio on all three bands. Extending the antennae absolutely is required for good reception. The solar cell works pretty darned well too. I have tested it and it charges the device adequately. Using the micro USB you can charge with a cellphone wall charger or laptop. You can also charge a cellphone for a few minutes talk time from the radio. This works, but it seems clear that larger phones with high end graphic displays are going to get less talk time from the limited battery power stored in the radio.

Excellent emergency radio - must have for any go bag.
I purchased one to add to my go bag and now my kids want one. The item is smaller than I thought but is really well put together and ultimately the smaller size worked in my favor as it fits nicely in my go bag. There are three ways to charge the radio: hand crank, solar and plugging it in when you do have power. I have tried each of the different charging methods and all work great. Once charged the radio works, the flashlight works and with the USB port you are able to charge other devices (just make sure you have the USB charging cable for that device). I have not experimented with the amount of charge that the radio provides, but as I told my kids - this is for emergencies not to charge the iphone to play games (but it will do that too). I actually have two go bags for the family, I am going to purchase another one so each bag is equipped.

Must have!! Do not hesitate!! emergency use or camping
Overall, it is great. Price, performance, portability, operation. The Samsung smartphone was well charged and the LED light worked well with just a few crank charging. It is recommended for emergency use. Of course, must have camping equipment. but one bad new, solar charging was not working. wrote on Apr 25, 2018 Update on 6/11/2018 : OMG!! ... Signal Processing) technology have really made these radios far better than they used to be just a few years ...
The advance in DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology have really made these radios far better than they used to be just a few years ago. There's multiple manufacturers of this type of radio on Amazon; likely with the same performance (which was far better than I expected) so price was the deciding factor in this purchase. It performs very well, picking up the local WB station quite clearly and FM stations are clear as well. AM is a little above average for this type of radio (I have a Terk Indoor AM Advantage to improve any AM radio's performance). The LED flashlight is also very bright. The only complaint is that it uses a cellphone battery (though the crank-charger seems to charge it for a good while when depleted) and there's no option for installing AA's/AAA's. Still, it's easy at this price (currently $15.95) to say this little jewel is the biggest bang for the buck right now on this style of radio.

Cute little solar radio!
This radio is cute and has three charging options. The solar and usb option work well. The crank option, not so much. I tried cranking for 4 minutes (another reviewer said that is what it took) and it hardly charged it at all. Also, it's hard to see the power level dots and easy to accidentally leave it on. The flashlight and alarm features were a nice bonus. Good item for emergencies or just to have a nice simple old school radio handy. I'd buy it again.

Affordable and works great!
I was pleasantly surprised on how well this is made and how well it works. It holds a charge for a good amount of time, radio is loud, flashlight is bright, and the it Re charges fast. This is a great addition to an emergency kit, especially at this price! 5/5 Would recommend

I had previously bought a little radio that could be used in emergencies, having battery back up, but to be blunt it sucked. My hopes weren't high for this one then, but I couldn't have been more wrong. It's so easy to operate I didn't bother reading the instructions; you can simply crank the handle and off you go. The sound quality was good and it was easy peasy to tune. I also left it on my desk for a day and the solar panel did its thing with no fuss. The torch light is bright enough for what you're likely to want unless you're planning a Blair Witch Project level of hunting through the woods. I haven't tested the battery life yet so I can't comment, but basically this is a sturdy little no-fuss radio that is compact and very handy. It's light enough to sling in an emergency rucksack and not really notice the extra weight. I haven't tested how fast it'll charge my phone, but given that the instructions say "in an emergency" I'm guessing it's probably quite slow - which is fine. It's a brilliant little extra feature that's just good to have in a tight spot. In a word, I love this little piece of emergency kit.

Not used extensively yet. I'm setting it aside as part of my emergency kit. It has 2 different ports Easy to charge (charging cable not included). I used one I already had. Easy to connect my iPhone to it to charge iPhone (cable included). It works! Flash light decent enough. Radio is basic and requires very little movement to turn the wheel to change channels. Sound is acceptable but not a surround sound! Solar charging is a good feature. Once fully charged using cable, I plan to leave it on the window sill on a sunny day to maintain the charge The manual crank appears to be working well. I am pleased with this purchase

Recharge's an iPhone. The solar recharge of the device itself works great. Also can crank it to recharge. And can be plugged in with its cord to keep it at optimal charge. This is a 'must have' item in any survival package. Get the news on the radio, and it's a flashlight as well. And, all can be recharged with the crank handle. Love it.

Just tried this for the first time. Comete garbage. Charge it for 24 hours, the second you unplug it, its stone dead.
