DK New Zealand (Travel Guide)

I purchased guide books from 2 companies and found them to be marginally helpful in NZ North Island but in other countries I have relied on such sources.

I usually love DK Eyewitness guides. For this book, I purchased it as a Kindle edition. I did this to save weight on vacation. The Kindle edition is horrible to use. Many functions do not work. Never again!

Used this Dec 2023 as our exclusive guidebook. Was initially drawn to it with the photos and durability of the pages but when we were on the islands it was awful to use. It was not in a logical order and we missed things while driving the loop. For instance it would have sections about a region and then list activities or special spots in a random order which was not helpful. I actually resent this book quite a bit as it complicated the road trip. Next time going w a lonely planet.

Quite a comprehensive guide.

This book is the latest edition and is good for getting basic trip inspiration to hello creating an itinerary. HOWEVER - I find it confusing that they lay it out with ‘must see’ then ‘experience more’ for each place, and some of the highlights for certain regions are a little unexpected. Ultimately I feel the need to get a separate Lonely Planet or Rough Guides guidebook before I travel to be fully informed - if you are hoping to get just one book for NZ then this is not for you if you are like me in what you want from a guidebook.

Can’t wait to visit in 2024
