Vinyl Guru Leather Turntable Platter Mat - Black

Does the job and looks the part
Let's just call it what it is. A 300mm diameter piece of very thin leather, that costs a lot of money. But hey, I knew what I was getting when I ordered it.It's still less expensive than some of it's rivals, and I can't personally speak to their quality, but there was no way I was paying north of 45 quid for something like this. It's a decent fit for my ProJect T1 SB resin platter. Uneven at some parts around the edge, but that's prob more my OCD as in reality it's barely noticeable. The intention was to have the rougher 'suedey' side facing the platter and the smoother side facing the vinyl, but tbh both sides are 'suedey' so didn't really matter. It does pick up some dust etc, but I think that's transferring from the vinyl itself and not pulling it out of the air due to static - the mat does not stick to the record so definitely not that. Anyway it's much easier to wipe/brush clean than standard felt mats.My set up is pretty basic so I can't say if it's improved the sound, but that's not what I was going for.At the end of the day, it sits nice and flat on the platter, there's no slippage, it's not sticking to the vinyl, it's easy to brush off any particles and it does look really good.

Happy days in lockdown.
This is a particularly beautiful design. The cow should be proud and can justifiably show off its circular scar knowing the lump of skin has been put to good use. I am delighted to report that all the hair has been shaved off the hide and no bits of gore were left on. The hold drilled in the middle, well almost dead centre but not quite, is really really round and goes all the way thru. This allows the cow piece to be placed with accuracy on the platter using the sticky uppy bit on the record player as a guide by pushing it thru the aforementioned hole. It has helped reduce static and thus the adherence of dusty bits and hairs to the LP. It’s not cheap but would you try shaving a circle off a cow? I should state that it may not have been a cow it could have been any number of thick skinned animal species even a fat politician.

I Call It Mellow Fellow (Quite Rightly)
I definitely noticed an improvement in sound quality with this new, suede (for such it is) turntable mat over my old, synthetic one.To test it, I played the same LP on the same hi-fi system with the two different mats (so only one variable) and it was as if a level of brightness had been removed, leaving a more mellow sound. The few snap, crackle and pops on the vinyl were obviously still there but they too were reduced in impact. The mat didn't stick to the record either so it's all good.It arrived next day, well protected, in an anti-static sleeve and stiff cardboard mailer. Highly recommended, despite the price.

Makes a slight improvement in sound reproduction
Good quality product. Nicely weighted and cuts down static, vibrations etc. Slightly Misleading In advert as not leather in the true sense of the word but more like black suede. But does the job all the same. Much better than the cheap nylon/felt based mat that came with my new Rega Planar 1 turntable.

Provides own source of dust
Not exactly leather more like suede did stop static but left black dust all over record surface hard enough keeping vinyl dust free without the turntable mat providing copious quantities of gunk back to cork for me prefer static to leather dust contamination

Superior product
I usually don't write reviews of items that i ordered here but this leather mat is superior.i ordered a week earlier a good quality acrylic platter mat but that 's nowhere near to this leather mat.Took music into new dimensions how i never heard before.Punchy bass and surprisingly strong high.First time i can tell that i listen a vinyl with reach sound and not just flat as a cd.The records don't slip at all like they are glued on the platter.I had problem with acrylic mat cleaning records on them. Was slippy but with this leather mat it is changed.Material is soft and i'm confident to put my virgin records on.You can't go wrong with this product.Highly recommended. It changed my whole music experience.

They'll know it's just a bit of old tat SURELY !
Rega Planar 2. Rega Exact cartridge. So you were meant to throw the Rega mat away and buy a an ermm record mat. The sounds of distant laughing from the Rega factory The only better option is absolutely no mat just directly into the glass platter and that's a revelation...look at me Ma I'm only dancing : )
