Q: How tall is the tank without the hood please.

The height w/o hood is 450mm but the hood is held on with screws. It does look easy enough to remove though. Normal access is by two flaps. The front flap for feeding and normal cleaning. The rear one to access the filters.

Q: Can the hood be removed

Yes it can be removed, you will however have the frame still on top

Q: Has the openings for an external filter pipes.

There is an opening at the back of the tank which should allow for that if you take the existing built-in one out

Q: do the dimensions you give (100 x 30 x54) include the hood?

Yes. I wouldn’t recommend this tank though because the filter in the hood tends to overflow! I have had to disconnect mine!
