Rogue Trooper: Tales of Nu-Earth 01 (Volume 1)

The first volume of the tales of the future war clone soldies
Rogue Trooper is a popular character from the 2000AD Sci Fi anthology who has been around since 1981. This series collects his adventures from the very beginning.Rogue might not be one of the more widely known outside of comics readers though he starred in a successful game from Rebellion studios some years ago (recently remastered) on consoles and PC.I must admit volume one feels quite traditional as a war story in some wars but thrown in lots of sci fy and tech elements to make it stand out. The writing and art are all great and it's definitely one I'd recommend checking out if looking for some of britains comics gems.

Die, Norts! Die!
OK. I'll admit it, I'm a child.Rogue Trooper was one of the heroes of my early teen life, so buying this was a pure nostalgia kick.Rogue is a great character, with some cool one liners and some interesting story lines. Gathering the stories together in a book like this makes them eminently consumable, although the thing that is clearly missing is the anticipation that I used to get when waiting for a week for the next edition of 2000AD.I'm not going to give away any of the plots, but if you like military comic characters, then you're almost certain to like Rogue. To be honest, Rogue's probably not cool enough for modern teens. So I wonder how many of these are sold to older fans like me. But it's a good book, perfectly well made, and it was a blast to read the stories again.Fun.

The true - the few - the blue!!!
Hell yeah - Rogue Trooper is a cool future-war-comic filled with blood, violence, chemical warfare and non-stop-action!The Rogue Trooper is a lone survivor and went AWOL to hunt down the traitor who caused the destruction of his entire unit. He is supported by his dead friends, who's memories have been downloaded on computerchips. The comic books -there are three volumes- are very well drawn and full of details. Of course the story is a little bit exaggerated, but nevertheless very entertaining. If you like this comic you should check out the computer game as well!

Solid but shallow
I've been tripping merrily down memory lane with these Rebellion Press reprints, and Rogue Trooper is my most recent acquisition. I have to say that while Strontium Dog, Nemesis the Warlock and a good proportion of the early Dredd stories really impressed me with their originality and depth, Rogue Trooper is a much more straightforward affair and I probably won't be dipping back into it. Dave Gibbons' artwork is, of course, superb, as is Cam Kennedy's, but the plots are repetitive and pretty close to your traditional war-comic fare, except the baddies yell 'Nain!' when they're shot instead of 'Gott in Himmell!' Having said that my 8 year old is completely hooked and devoured the book in a couple of days - maybe one for today's kids rather than yesterday's.

Fantastic Book
After replaying Rebellion's Rogue Trooper game I decided to give the original comic a read, and I was really impressed. In fact, I read this whole volume in two days. I had to order the next straight away! Rogue Trooper is a straight-forward story, it's not full of twists and turns, and it hasn't got deep, relatable, characters. What it has got though is a brilliant sci-fi universe and plenty of war stories, which kept me interested for the whole volume.
