Great little tool
Moved into a new house recently. The previous owners of course didn't keep paint swatches or details so instead of cutting extra holes in each room I went for this. Tested on a few known colors first from my preferred vendor and it matched those spot on both from the wall and the known paint swatch itself. Moving to unknown wall colors I tested the same wall in different spots and results varied, but some colors are so close I went with the one that showed at the top of the list most often. Great success in matches so far. It doesn't cover "sheen" so you'll have to figure that out through guess work and testing, but it does get the color right.

Really cool idea - terrible execution/product design
First off let me say when this thing works (for the first week) it's awesome. It matches paint beautifully and is such a cool idea. Then why one star? Because the product design is terrible. There is no on/off switch, and the only status light is a tiny LED buried INSIDE the charging port that's impossible to see.And more specifically, after it loses its initial charge, it doesn't work again, at least that's the case with BOTH NixMini's that I've bought. Both of them worked great on the initial charge that they arrived with, but once that charge dies, so does the nix. and now I have two $100 paperweights.I really want one of these that works in my tool belt... great idea for DIY projects around the home. but until they fix these flaws, I cannot support them.

After a couple months of use would not turn on - Updated 10-27-21 - Company Replaced Unit *****
The company stands behind their product. Not only did they replace it. The replacement showed in two days at my door! That's a five star review in my book. Hopefully this one will last longer than the first. New one charges and connects. Back to scanning accurate colors.Previous experience below---Purchase Feb 2021. After a couple months of use won't turn on, won't connect, won't wake, its dead. I don't know if its the battery or bluetooth. Battery dies quickly before the review. I'd guess either the battery or unit is fried after 6 months and will not connect.Maybe its got something to do with ios15, but I doubt it. Apps are up to date, left it plugged in overnight hoping to fully charge, resetting Bluetooth, the blue LED light is so faint barely visible while charging (even in the dark). Also there is no status lights. It used to work. 5 stars before, but it didn't even last a year. Probably only really used it a dozen times to match paint samples. If Nix customer support replaces it, I will update my review. It is not an Amazon support issue. Nix should stand behind the product.

Better than a shot in the dark or a good guess, but not perfect
This is wonderful tool to help match an unknown paint against know color swatches from 20 major paint manufacturers. This is better than working with color swatches or a shot in the dark - but it has issues.Over the years we’ve repainted the rooms in our three story Victorian several times and kept track of every paint color except for two colors. That’s where the Nix comes in. Before testing any of our unknown wall colors we tested the Nix mini against 10 color swatch’s from the store. The Nix was 100% accurate and identified the color name and the manufacture right off the bat. The same was not true for the colors of our know colored walls. The Nix offers “Excellent” matches to a scan and “Good” matches. All of the known colors on our painted walls were “Good” matches to the paint color we used and none were “excellent.” And when it came to matching the grey in our bedroom, the Nix was terribly wrong100% of the time.Excluding our grey bedroom where the Nix failed miserably, the difference between the scan and the name of the paint on our walls is noticeable. Thankfully the Nix allows for side by side comparison of their scan against suggested colors. The color imbalance on our walls maybe caused by human error, the sunlight effect, dust, the primer we used, number of coats applied, surface conditions, or different mixing machines. These might account for some of the subtle differences between the Nix scan and the named paint. Our worst results were from our freshly painted “grey room.” The walls were dark primed and three top top coats of grinder grey made everything uniform. Our Nix was totally wrong time and time again and our color wasn’t listed. With all our mixed results we are still very pleased. The side by side comparison feature is fantastic. No ability to save your scan for future use with the Mini 2. Great for a homeowner handyman around the house. If you’re a pro, you’ll need the pro model features.

Wow, what customer relations
To the NIX Customer Support Team,I want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to the NIX 3 customer support team for going above and beyond to replace my sensor.I initially purchased the sensor several years ago to assist with designing our new home, which replaced the one we lost in a California wildfire. The NIX sensor played a crucial role in our design process, helping us define color schemes and pull inspiration from other projects to create the perfect vision for our new space.Unfortunately, after sitting on the shelf for over a year and a half, the NIX 2 sensor stopped holding a charge. When I reached out to customer service, I was impressed by how quickly they responded and their willingness to help. Not only did they guide me through troubleshooting, but they also replaced my NIX 2 with the latest NIX 3 model. Their assistance was seamless, and the transition to the new product was effortless. We’re now using the NIX 3 on a daily basis, and I couldn’t be happier with the performance. The customer service provided by Matthew and the entire NIX team was truly exceptional. Their patience, professionalism, and dedication to ensuring a positive experience are qualities I greatly appreciate. It’s rare to come across such outstanding service, and I’ll be sure to recommend NIX products to others without hesitation.Thank you once again, Matthew, and to everyone at NIX for making this experience so positive.Best regards,Tony CalhounOjai, CA
