How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot

A legendary status. A very long print run. And yet for a while I only owned the Haynes manual, what a fool, this book dwarfs the Haynes in both size and quality. The wording is basic and colloquial. It's actually quite an interesting read, rather than simply a dull manual to read only when required. I now fully understand the hype surrounding this book, it's an absolute steal at the price point it currently sits at, covers type 1 (Beetle) which is what I have, but also believe it covers the other air cooled models VW were producing during the same era

This is a really good book and gives lots of details about the mechanics of a Beetle. The illustrations are amazing.

If you own a VW this book is a must have

I'am looking for a old classic VW and would love to attempt restoration and this book is perfect for the task, lots of knowledge

The book is easy to read and has some useful tips if you are going to use your VW as a daily driver.

What an incredible book! It was written over 50 years ago when the type of VW you have was relatively new.The author is very knowledgeable and the book is well written in a hippy kind of laid back style. There are some amazing drawings in there too.Not many books are still in print 52 years later...

Bought this book based on previous reviews and when I first opened it was unsure of my wisdom as it seemed very Beetle-biased.However; on delving deeper this tome is a magnificent piece of technical writing without the jargon.It covers Beetle and Bus and gives step-by-step instructions for fault-finding and repair including exactly which tools you'll need to each job but more importantly which tools and spares you shouldn't go anywhere in your bus or Beetle without!All-in-all a very, very useful book and one to have to augment the usual Haynes-type manual.Yes the writing is a bit dated (70s) but so's my Bus! The language was a little different back then and yes, I can still dig it.If you have a Beetle or a VW bus do not think twice - buy this book.

Todo amante de los Escarabajos o de las T, debería tenerlo.Explica mogollón de situaciones, mantenimiento y reparaciones que alguna vez, como explica el autor, nos pueden salvar de un mal trago. No viene mal tenerlo y además es un coleccionable en toda regla.Eso sí, aunque hoy en día el inglés no es un problema para la mayoría, es una lástima que no exista ya la versión impresa en español que se editó en Mexico salvo en pdfs por la red.

Een hilarisch boek en tegelijk een zeer duidelijke omschrijving van werkzaamheden en onderhoud voor luchtgekoelde volkswagen eigenaren en / of liefhebbers. Een lust om te lezen met zeer mooie / maffe / geweldige tekeningen ter illustratie. Een echte aanrader ! Voor de prijs hoef je het ook niet te laten liggen.
