*Updated after 8 months use.. *Don't worry about your cat when out at work
*this item has been working great up until 7 months of use, one of the plastic guides on the top part that runs on the rails appears to have come off and now the mechanism intermittently jams allowing flies and insects into the food. Amazon won't help so going to try the manufacturer direct * April 2022** Update 29/04 : received fantastic product support from surefeed customer service, they supplied a replaclemt lid free of charge by special delivery and my feeder is working again now, back to 5 stars, 2 year warranty is great peace of mind for buying this product **Bought this to solve an issue with my outdoor cat who usually eats in the porch of my house. Id leave a bowl of food out for the cat whilst I'm at work and overnight, this would either let the food go dry or off, or attract flies, insects or slugs which I was afraid the cat might end up eating.I seen this device but thought it might scare the cat off as its very nervous, I had bought him a water fountain which he looked at and ran off. To my surprise, he has taken to this very quickly and was eating from it within a few minutes. It's comical to watch through a window where the cat puts his face in front of the feeder to trigger the sensor, then sits and waits for the flap to open.He used to try and bury his unfinished food but now just walks off as the seal covers the food from flies etc. about 10 seconds after he finishes eating. It stays fresh all day and results in less food being thrown away, it's also much healthier for the cat. He can feed himself now when I'm not there, the dish will take about two packets of food.I also notice a reduction in passing opportunist cats taking his food as they can't smeel it anymore due to the seal over the top of the food when the flap closes.Very easy to clean, and a training mode for timid cats, very happy with this purchase and recommend it to all cat owners! One star less as batteries were not included and required a trip to the shops for some c-cell batteries.

Pet bowl: great. Spike: not so much
I flipped out finding this item. For months I am trying different solutions to prevent throwing away uneaten cat food: half a portion, quarter portion, teaspoon at a time, cling film, aluminum foil, Tupperware, dry only diet -- finally I gave up and made peace with the money I'm throwing away on uneaten wet cat food, since Spike only eats up to 70% of it at best case scenario (and many times merely 20-30%, not more) and that's talking about the minimal 85gr portions. You see, Spike, evidently a trend following cat, eats only fresh. i.e, immediately after the package was opened. He is less bothered by the fact that poor animals were processed into food for him only to be thrown away - not that I'm vegetarian, but at the very least I make sure no animal died in vain... It's not lettuce. So, when discovering the SureFeed product it took very little time until checkout, and I was ready to crown it product of the century even before the order arrived. Spike, sadly, didn't get the memo. The product itself is indeed great. It's a smart invention that is very reasonably priced, well built from high quality materials and works smoothly and easily even if you're not very gadget friendly. It was a matter of inserting batteries (add those to your cart right after to save some headache later, as they are not included. Not that I would expect that for the pet bowl price) and turning it on, and it was ready to go. One feature that I clearly overlooked, what with it being my fastest placed order ever, and found out about only when the item arrived is the training button, that will get your cat accustomed to the new dish with moving parts over a few days. It worked very well, and the switch was as simple as it gets. The motion detection, obviously the most important part of the machine, works flawlessly and the mechanism is surprisingly quiet. It took no more than Spike sticking his nose over it, and the flap would gently open, and close back few seconds after he finished and moved on with bath time. Since I am less fond of dishwashing, I also ordered extra bowls (sold separately) - those were found out to be of the same high quality, and most importantly very easy to wash - still doesn't mean I wanna keep washing the one bowl for every feeding, but once a day I do all three in seconds and don't even bother with the dishwasher. As you can see, happy customer here. Well, happy buyer. The target audience however remained true to his habits, and would still eat only right after the food was opened. The next time hunger strikes, he would approach the SureFeed, allow it to open, sniff, and head for the dry food backup. It should be noted that I'm specifically describing Spike's culinary adventures in order to make you aware that in the off chance your cat is related to mine and you're also buying the SureFeed for the same goal and not because of having a flies issue or what not, it might be that just like in my case your only solution to solve it is replacing the cat, not the bowl (which isn't happening, so tough luck for me. Parenting is difficult, people). It therefore should also be noted that a friend who ordered the product as well, and also lucked out with a normal cat, reports that his cat is eating as much as he needs, retires to his business, and when he wishes to eat again will come back and eat the rest. Moreover, the said cat which was sadly abused as a kitten and grew up to be a very shy and quiet cat which is extremely easily freightened and is very careful around new things, took very well to the SureFeed and learned quickly that the fact its cover is moving is a good thing (which says a whole lot about how quiet and gentle the system is, especially in that cat's case). In conclusion: it's truly a great product that does it's job well and is very affordable; however, if your intention is to eliminate food waste there is a chance it might not be able to help you with that. Keep food edible for longer
Really did prevent the flies and dry air affecting the food which is really an issue in the summer. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is the requirement for C type batteries. I 3d printed adapters to allow the use of AA batteries and it's still going strong after 1 month so not really sure why they designed it that way. I didn't want to buy a new battery charger and batteries just for this. Other than that it's a really good product and very well made.

Great gadget
This has been a real success in keeping the fly's off the food. My cat got the hang of it with half an hour. She's a Bengal pre disposed to problem solving when food is involved😂. It has sensors at the sides and front and opens and shuts with minimum noise, so won't scare off timid pets. It closes in under five seconds of the pet walking away so doesn't give the fly's a chance to settle. It comes with a single removable bowl which is very easy to clean. You can buy two section versions for wet and dry. My criticisms would be the cost ( I'd have gone with a limit of £30) and that the body of the feeder is a bit fiddly to clean but it's worth it for all the food saved and which is normally wasted through fly's laying eggs on it. I use a little black poop bag to double bag any old food (this cuts down fly's in your wheelie bin)Also try and place it in a low traffic area . Whilst you have to be close to trigger it, can go nuts in busy spots.Generally a success !
