Fantastic Book encompassing 40 years of Hip Hop & Rap, A great point of reference for A Real Hip Hop Head or someone new to Hip Hop. Excellent Artwork from many artists including the Legendary artist ASKEM with a myriad of his signature artwork.

This Day in Rap and Hip-Hop History This is a great fun book if you do literally want a blow-by-blow daily account of the hip hop history. It contains a brief overview of many individuals, events and incidents - though of course each is covered only very briefly because there are so many individual entries. It’s a chunky coffee table book on good quality paper with stylish design that would make a great gift to someone who’s interested in finding out a bit more about hip hop - or middle-aged people wanting to reminisce about their youth! For sale at the time of writing this review at £16.74 (RRP £30).

This book covers the whole history of hip hop. The fact is was written by Chuck D who is one of the forefathers of the 80s movement makes it even better. Even has his own quotes. Great book for you to learn the history of the genre.

Ich selbst kann mit Hiphop und Rap nichts anfangen. Echt gar nichts. Public Enemy, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys und natürlich auch die Fat Boys waren zwar Begleiter meiner Jugend aber so richtig warm geworden bin ich damit nie. Dann hab ich letztens was von nem Typ namens Eminem gehört, das fand ich ganz OK, weil das angenehm aggressiv und gleichzeitig melodisch klang. Das war's. Ich bin mehr so der Rock'n'Roll Typ. Ein Freund von mir ist allerdings -- gelinde gesagt -- Hiphop-Fanatiker. Er nahm mich vor ein paar Jahren mit zu PE in Berlin und schleuste mich letztes Jahr mit auf das Berliner Konzert der Prophets of Rage (Ja, beides mit Chuck D.!). Konvertiert bin ich trotzdem nicht. Dann stand der Geburtstag dieses besagten Freundes an und ich suchte nach einem passenden Geschenk. Irgendwas mit "Hiphop" sollte es sein. Als ich dieses Buch sah, war die Suche sofort beendet. Die Schlagwörter "Von Chuck D" und "Hip-Hop History" reichten mir aus, um zu wissen, dass dies nicht mehr zu toppen wäre. Bei der Übergabe war er erstmal sprachlos, dann hat er sich gefreut wie ein kleines Kind das den Weihnachtsmann auf dem Osterhasen reiten sieht. War offenbar ein Erfolg. Zum Buch selbst kann ich nichts weiter sagen, ausser das es groß und schwer ist, viele Seiten hat und viele, viele Namen und Titel enthält, die mir völlig unbekannt sind. Für Fans des Genre wahrscheinlich jetzt schon eine Art Bibel.
