Fresh Banana Leaves 2 Lbs. Hoja de Platano

Used these to make cochinita pibil. Leaves were defrosted when they arrived. In great condition. I froze them for a couple of weeks before using, the flavor they added as unreal. Great product. Would use again.

Rotten and dry. Banana leaves are supposed to be refrigerated and lush green. People cook with these. They also came in a flimsy shopping bag. I demand my money back. This is outrageous! Do not buy this!

My first time using banana leaves and had to order as I could not find locally. They arrived with minimal delay and were in fine shape despite the hot weather and a statement on the package which said “Keep frozen”. I kept some to use and put the rest in the freezer. They did just fine when thawed again for use. Having not used them before, I didn’t quite know what to expect flavor wise. I used them to wrap and cook fish and really didn’t notice any real flavor enhancement. I’ll use again and perhaps make tamales . They are more of a novelty to me than a useful cooking item.

We recently started a family tradition of making homemade tamales over the holidays. These worked great - much better than corn husks. Came as a frozen bundle. Defrosted by run water over at the sink. Leaves were fresh, soft & pliable. Generally clean, but I did rinse them under running water to remove any remaining debris. Each leaf was approximately 12” x 3-4’ long. Used a kitchen knife to remove the hard spine and cut to 8”x10” squares. Easy to cut! Rolled and tied with filling inside. Made about 50 tamales. Very happy

Product appears to be top quality and arrived in good condition. However, leaves were just in an open plastic bag with no protection from heat. Would expedited delivery be warranted? I don't know but I would feel more secure product was not organically compromised. Leaf package should at least be sealed and perhaps vacuum packed.

These came not very fresh, smelling of some rot, dirty etc,covered in white mold. Needed to clean well before use. They were usable, but barely. Still easier to use than frozen. They were pale and faded. I have ordered fresh from Amazon before and gotten fresh hojas that were dark green and pliant. It's not fresh, the leaves came out black, the photos in the ad are misleading, there is no return.
