I bought the clamp under the impression that is was basically essential, before watching a few Lansky instructional videos that showed the kit being used handheld style therefore showing it is not required for effective sharpening, however I find it so much easier to refine a knife using the clamp as I can come away from the knife to give my hands a rest (or pick up my toddler) and pick up where I left off meaning I'm keeping consistency in my knife edges... Brilliant product

I thought I would be able to clamp to table - clamp does not open wide enough so have to clamp to intermediate board .... which means the simple screw down clamp might have been easier choice.In use it does not hold the Lansky sharpener as well as expected, as the spigot is quite short .... so only goes into bottom half.Does make it easier than holding in your hand ..... but you still need to hold Lanklsy sharpener onto this clamp - it's more of a rest/aid than a clamp.

I was given a Lansky Knife Sharpening system with diamond hones. You can use the kit hand-held, but having a method of keeping the knife-holder/hone guide steady means you will achieve extremely consistent angles on your blade edges. This clamp, for the Lansky system, allows you to secure your knife in the knife-holder/hone guide which can then be mounted on the mount quickly and securely plus - when you need to - you can flip it over in seconds so you can work on the other side of the blade.The C-clamp can be mounted on a range of thicknesses but - here's the beauty - the C-clamp mount which holds the knife-holder can be mounted in two directions at right angles to each other so giving you more options for mounting it. Now, here's my wee crib. The post that holds the knife-holder/hone guide can loosen quite easily so I use a short length of plumbers' p.t.f.e. tape on the threads to keep it secure. I could use a semi-permanent solution such as Hermetite but that's an extreme solution.This is my clamp of choice in my workshop. You can get properly sharpened blades with Lansky hones and this clamp will give you the best chance.

does what it claims to do but I'm underwhelmed with build quality - knife clamp fits C clamp but has a little play and arm comes loose with use requiring routine tightening whilst sharpening

I struggled with what to write here and how to rate. I'll explain.I have had my Lansky sharpening kit for a few months and have been slowly going round all the knives in the house starting and improving on the blades . It's been slow going and I convinced myself I was learning a new skill.I decided to give this bracket a go and to be honest I now am utterly bewildered that it isn't included in the original kit. Without this clamp the kit is awkward slow and cumbersome, with the clamp it is fast easy and so much safer.If Lansky included these clamps with the basic kit, they would sell like hot cakes.

I was kinda dubious of this item when I first bought my Lansky stuff, but I figured to buy everything I thought I might need at once, rather than go back later for something that I might realize I needed five minutes after I opened the box. I have to say though that this handy little unit really does make using the basic kit a lot easier. Having it held off the desk or table I'm using just works better for me, orthographically-speaking. I don't use it every time, but overall; I really like it.
