This is one of a series of Comprehension Papers for 9-10 years, 10- 11+ years and 11+ - 12+ years. There are SO many workbooks available for younger children, but as your child passes the 11+ stage, they become less and less (particularly in the KS3 age group, which have been labelled the “wasted years” of education. So, I was pleased to see these books do go up to 12 and I hope that Bond will consider increasing the ages of their excellent workbooks for older children. This particular book is for 10-11+ and includes ten comprehension papers, with a pull out answer book and a progress chart at the end of the book. The comprehension passages include fiction classics, poetry, factual, myths and news reports. The questions require written answers and there is space in the book to write. This is an excellent resource to help improve comprehension, which is nicely laid out and with a good range of writing to base the questions upon.

Easy value for the money

Useful for 11 plus preparation. The questions ask for full answers not multi-choice. As we were preparing fo the CEM multi-choice test I didn't used these as tests but worked through them verbally with my son, which was really helpful in identifying the areas of comprehension he was having difficulties with. I found there's a shortage of good comprehension books for 11+ as most of them use the same (out of copyright) classic texts - Little Women, Alice in Wonderland, etc, etc. This book was great in that respect as it has a good range of different texts including non-fiction and poetry.

If you are preparing for the 11+, then these are great. You do the worksheets at home & mark them for your child. You can see where they are strong or weak & where they need to be supported. The 11+ is written when most children are only 10 years old & for fee paying schools & grammar schools, they frequently test beyond the curriculum as they are interested in the more able pupils, so this book would be appropriate for children in the first term of year 6 (exams are in January in the Spring term.)

great assistance to material covered in school, my daughter found this book to be a great help in preparation for her transfer test, would recommend definitely.
