Tascam TH-02 – Stereo headphones

I bought these headphones based on a reddit thread's recommendation, which states that these are the best ones under $100. They were slightly uncomfortable on my ear at first because of the round and not oval shape, but you can get used to it easily. The sound was surprisingly good on my laptop and tablet, but my phone (LG G4) needed a equalizer adjustment. The cable is plenty long and sturdy, and the headband is well padded. All in all, it's fantastic value, and is perfect for what I need it to be.

I've seen a few bad reviews suggesting that these are cheap and fragile so it lead me to coming back five years down the line and finally leaving a review. Cheap, I'd agree... as chips indeed! Fragile... disagree. Just treat your kit with respect. Mine have been twisted, folded, cable wrapped and dropped more often than enough and are still going. I have chosen not to kick them after dropping them, swinging them by the cable or folding the cable beyond a sensible bend so maybe they've not been "tested to destruction". I was looking for a cheap pair of closed backs for various recording projects both in the studio and in the field and have found the sound reference not bad at all for the price. They have a very long cable length, which I agree, would be great if it was detachable, and they are comfortable over the ear. The one thing I do find is that they are a bit big across the head and I'm not small domed by any means. Maybe just another ratchet drop and they would be fine... at the same time though, if your in the field and wearing a hat... perfect. Overall, 5 years (and hopefully a few more) for the £25 I paid in 2017 I can't complain at all.

I bought these when I started to learn the piano and have found them to be really good. I have quite a large head and I've found these to be quite comfortable when wearing for long periods of time. The sound quality is also really good.

Great studio headphones. I find these have the best balanced uncoloured sound for studio mixing. Comfortable to wear for a good couple of hours, but then can get a bit sore.

After reading reviews I expected to get some decent sound but sadly it seems very flat and somehow hollow. They're comfortable and well built but I find the sound quality to be a let down, especially for recording audio for video and podcasts.

Great value. Excellent for the price. When I mixdown with these, there are seldom any nasty surprises when I check on CD.

After a rough start, these headphones have highly impressed me. What was the rough start? Well, when they arrived the TH-02 headphones were exceedingly tight on my head. Other reviewers have mistakenly diagnosed this as a problem with the earpads and purchased after-market earpads for themselves. There is nothing wrong with the leather-like earpads, and I have found them comfortable (if just barely too small for my sizeable ears). But the fit was so tight on my head that these made my ears sore to wear after just a half hour. So I left them stretching on my router overnight, and after that they were golden. First of all, the audio quality I am getting out of these is nothing short of incredible for a pair of headphones that cost me less than twenty bucks. They compete easily with my beloved IEMs that I was using before getting this pair, and at less than half the price. Second, I love the clean black-and-white look of this pair of headphones. Not only does it match with the overall visual style of my whole PC and audio set-up, but it is a nicer and more professional look than you can find in many more expensive options. Third, the construction of them is also surprisingly high-quality at their price. Nothing about the pair seems flimsy or cheap; all of the connections are solid and all of the points of articulation move in a consistent fashion every time. Finally, I have noticed other people remarking on the very long cord that this pair of headphones features. It is indeed rather long! I view this as a good thing, because I can run them directly out of the audio output on the back of my PC (leaving my front-facing audio jacks open for other applications). But if you're looking for headphones that you can carry with you everywhere, you might want to consider tying up some of the cable length somehow.
