Excellent design Moka pot and simple to use and clean
I have mainly used a Cafetiere for making my coffee but having seen the Moka type pot in use a number of times in different settings and viewed various reviews, I thought I would give one a try. I usually like my coffee fairly strong and in sufficient quantity (large mug size) to keep me satisfied for a few hours between mugs. I initially placed my order for the 3 cup Bialetti pot but immediately revised my Amazon order to the larger 4 cup. In my view it would be better to have a larger unit than have a smaller unit and not have enough capacity. I glad I made the 4 cup choice. In addition to the Amazon packaging my Moka pot arrived well packaged by the manufacturer Bialetti, with clearly written and easy to understand Operating instructions in multiple languages included. Read and follow these OI's and you should have no problems. Likewise, use common sense when handling and cleaning the more delicate parts, such as the coffee holder "funnel", and avoid holding it by the narrow stem while vigorously shaking out heavy wet coffee grains, especially if you wish the stem to remain attached to the funnel. If you ignore this common sense advice and manage to break it off, this is NOT a manufacturing issue or poor design. Anything can be broken if you try hard enough or use it in a way for which it was not intended. In my view, this Bialetti Moka is a good design, of good quality, and correctly used produces a good cup of coffee. Obviously these three points are my own personal view with the last point being dependent on your own taste in coffee brand and variations in preparation method, but in using this Moka pot you have the opportunity to produce a pot of nose tingling, great looking, hot, steamy, strong and great tasting coffee to suit your own personal preference. That is the key. In the Bialetti Moka Express Aluminium Stovetop Coffee Maker (4 Cup) you have the ideal tool to do the job. Since purchase several months ago I have used this Moka pot to make all my coffee, currently on my 7th 227g bag of my favourite coffee brand. It took me several pot cycles to arrive at the best heat setting on my cooking appliance (electric hob) which is usually the setting I use for a simmer/low boil. You will need to experiment yourself, as most appliances will vary from gas to electric etc and individual heat settings, but my advice would be (as per Bialetti OI's) use a medium heat setting to start and adjust your heat up or down to suit, based on results you get. As it only takes a short time from placing on the hob to start to produce liquid in the top pot, DON'T wander off even for a short time to do something else. Stay and watch the pot at all times it is on the hob with the lid up and heat is being applied. This is after all part of the coffee making experience and should be savoured. I "preheat" my electric hob at setting 4, place the pot towards the edge with the lid up and so the handle is off to one side so it has less direct heat exposure from the hob ring below, and reduce the setting to 3. Keep watching (and smelling). You should soon smell the familiar aroma of your chosen coffee wafting up to your nostrils and if you continue watching you will observe the initial flow of dark liquid gold. I close the lid after the first third of liquid has appeared and turn off the heat source at this point. On hearing the final bubbling and gurgling as the last of the liquid fills the top pot I remove the pot to a cork mat. I find the aroma of freshly brewed coffee is amazing. I boil a small amount of fresh water in my kettle in tandem, splashing a small amount in my chosen mug (to pre heat the mug). After allowing to stand for a minute or so I then pour the coffee from the moka usually accompanied by a satisfactory amount of "froth", topping my mug off with freshly boiled water as required/to taste. Less dilute equals stronger coffee, again down to personal preference. Cleaning the Bialetti Moka in warm water is simple and effective. I use a soft none abrasive washing up sponge if needed, and then immediately dry all parts inside and out with a tea towel before storage. I only reassemble the next time I am ready to make a fresh pot. I am pleased to report my Bialetti Moka Express Aluminium Stovetop Coffee Maker (4 Cup) pot is still in the same condition as when I first received it and the coffee produced is perfect. I would recommend this item and this manufacturer and if given the choice would buy this item again. If you follow the Bialetti Operating Instructions and handle with care it is likely this will last you a good number of years before it needs replacing. Purchase one and enjoy your coffee. M.

A perfect cup of coffee
I am moved to write a review of the Bialetti Moka Express 6 cup expresso maker as I don't recognise the comments from some of the poor reviews it has received. Overall the 210 5* ratings out of a total to date of 258 should speak for themselves and be enough of a recommendation. Follow the instructions that come with the Moka or that are available online and you should fine. I purchased this item new from Amazon in Feb 2009 and have used it multiple times a day since. I also have a second one which I keep at work. Both perform perfectly every time without fail and also spare parts are easily available. In all the time I have used the Mokas I have only needed to replace the rubber seal twice. I have never had a handle break but when assembling the two chambers together ensure that you do not use the handle as a lever because then it probably will fail. An important point to note is that the Moka is made from aluminium which may oxidise rather than rust if not taken care of properly. Wash it only using hot water and never use detergent. Dry it with a paper towel and ensure it is completely dry before putting it away unassembled. The Moka does not need to be on a red hot stove to boil with a low to medium heay should be sufficient. The Moka will improve over the years with age and use. Prove it prior to first use by brewing at least 3 times and throwing the coffee away. If your one has oxidised it may be rescued with water and vinegar but will need to be proved again before use. It is an expresso maker first and foremost so when cup size is stated it is refering to the little single expresso cups. The 6 cup size is suitable for one single average sized mug of americano style for which I use one heaped tablespoon of coffee. Again it is an expresso maker so use coffee ground for expresso use only however please note that it does not produce a crema. It is very important not to overfill with water or leave on the stove for too long. If the coffee boils then it will taste burnt and bitter. Also ensure no coffee grounds are caught between the rubber seal and the lower chamber. You will get to know when the coffee is ready by sound and smell. As soon as the Moka starts to burble and spit it is ready to come off of the stove. Wait for a few seconds to let it settle down and then pour for the perfect coffe. I am a big, big fan of this little coffee maker for its simple design, ease of use, longevity, availability of spare parts and for the fantastic coffee it produces.

Top notch moka pot
What make this price higher than other immidated products? I both have them, and result is it worth extra paid. Why? The quality of Bialetti is immaculated. No matter the aluminium quality, finishing is under more refine and pricised grind. The funnel is bigger than other 12 cups as 670ml.Other 12 cups is 600ml.The filter plate is finner holes that filtered less sediments.Filter undergo a restrainted 8 x aluminium seats in the upper cup. That help protect filter deform during brew pressure.Coffee quality is aromatic, refine palate when approach your lips, persistent that evole into nosal comfort feeling. On mouth, quality is structural, complex and clean taste. If you a not demanding the immodated products is ok for cheap price, but if you are a coffee lover, buy Bialetti, you will know what it is made different from others.

Great introduction to espresso
I was in the market for cappuccino/espresso maker. It was getting too expensive to buy them in sachets from the supermarket. I spotted this in a You tube video and instantly started looking it up on amazon. A great place to find all kinds of items. Arrived quickly as expected. First impression... the tiniest thing I ever saw! I order the one cup size, thinking I might not like it. It didn’t fit on the hob, so I couldn’t try it without a hob reducer. It produce a third of my coffee mug in mocha. Though I knew there would only be little, I was sort of dissatisfied looking down into my usual mug. BLAM!! Such a brilliant and aromatic cup of coffee. I don’t add milk or sugars, Smoky undertones and caramel smoothness. Flavours I wouldn’t ever taste if stuck to the same coffee routine. And I mean “routine “ as in it has changed my whole morning to start with and times throughout the day too. I didn’t add milk or sugar. Cleaning is easy and uncomplicated. You can remove the rubber gasket and clean inside the spout. The gasket can be replaced. Available from many amazon sellers. My only real gripe is that it’s difficult to remove the basket you fill the ground coffee in. It sometimes is quite finicky. Especially when you want another cup and the pot is still hot. And I’m still trying to understand that, had I opted for the six cup pot, how I would keep the rest of the coffee warm. It is only me who enjoys this delicious goodness. as the coffee filters through the spout, from the bottom compartment into the top leaving the bottom compartment empty therefore it would not conduct any heat. I would recommend this to anyone new to making coffee using freshly ground coffee beans. You Can add hot water if the coffee is too strong. Get the 4 cup version then you can enjoy several cups without having to wash up every time in between.

Solid and reliable little Moka Pot
A Moka Pot is one of the oldest forms of making coffee and, even all these years later, this little Italian coffee gadget still continues to make excellent coffee. Having never used one until really getting into coffee, I decided to order one and give it a try. You’ll often see this come up on social media marketplaces, and it’s often because people don’t know how to use them and end up with bitter, awful coffee. If you do your research online and have a quick read/watch of a couple of videos, you can soon get the hang of it. When grinding your coffee beans, you want to grind fairly coarse, but not as coarse as a French Press. You want the pieces to be fairly small but not espresso consistency, otherwise the coffee will be too bitter. The grind consistency you need can easily be achieved with a blade grinder. You can of course use pre-ground coffee, but you can’t beat the taste of freshly ground beans. This particular Moka Pot is pretty small and would be ideal for one or two people. The coffee it makes is a lovely alternative to espresso from an espresso machine and makes a great base for a milk based drink, and can provide you with delicious coffee that you’d find in your local cafe. Just make sure to use a towel or something to pick up the bottom of the Moka Pot when you’ve filled it with hot water, as it gets very hot very quickly. Once you’ve brewed your coffee over a medium heat, go and run the base of it under a cold tap to stop it from brewing. After you’ve poured your coffee, just rinse out the top of the Moka Pot to remove any leftover coffee residue and towel dry to prevent rusting. This is a handy little coffee gadget and would be great to take on travels, providing you have a gas hob at your destination. If you want to use it on an induction hob, you’ll have to buy one that works on that heat source. This makes a great gift for someone wanting to venture into the world of home brewing and, when used correctly, makes a tasty cup of coffee.

Perfect coffee, great quality coffee maker for serious coffee lovers!
Before buying this coffee maker I thought I knew what coffee tasted like... I was wrong! I had experimented with our morning coffee with a cafetiere and a regular coffee maker with our preferred Lavazza coffee, and thought it was good. After being convinced by a family member of my partner who swears by the old fashioned stove top coffee makers, and this particular long time and high quality brand, I decided to take the plunge and invest. I was not disappointed. First of all the picture seems to be of one of the smaller coffee makers as ours (the 12 cup) was substantially bigger. The coffee maker felt high quality and sturdy however when closing it tightly it is recommended to hold it by the body and NOT pull it closed with the handle as this has been known to break off. This is understandable as you want to really close it well so the force could damage the handle if that was used. The coffee maker unfortunately did not work well with our hobs but we had prepared for this and bought a pair of coffee rings to fit on top of the hobs which allow the coffee maker to sit on top perfectly. The coffee maker was well constructed and the following morning we filled to the recommended limit and filled with our Lavazza coffee. I would recommend not patting the coffee down as it seems to have problems when compacting the coffee too much, just shake and make sure the coffee is level before screwing the lid on. Then pop on the stove until it starts hissing. From our first cup of coffee we were in love, I did not know the difference could be so extreme between this, a cafetiere and even coffee shop coffee. The taste was so much more intense and rich, and every morning since we have woken up with a cup using this coffee maker. The strength is also much stronger than even leaving our cafetiere for a long time, or making multiple espressos. The 12 cup espresso maker is obviously designed for 12 Italian style cups, but we find that with relatively large "English style" mugs, my partner and I get one cup each in the morning (with milk) and I get to enjoy another, still relatively hot, cup later in the morning when he has gone to work. In all this is the perfect size for us. As for cleaning I was told by several people do NOT use any kid of soap or detergent and have stuck to that religiously. Simply slide the seal off after unscrewing (make sure to let it cool down first or you could obviously suffer some nasty burns!) and pop the filter off, then tip away the coffee and rinse. I like to use a soft sponge to clean the inside and once a week use a scouring pad with just hot water. The inside will get stained a little with coffee but any good coffee lover will tell you this is what improves the flavour over time. The only negative is sometimes the seal holding the filter on requires a knife to remove but this isn't really an issue if you are careful. All in all a stylish, sturdy and well made quality coffee maker. This has really improved our mornings as we cannot wait to wake up and make a hot cup of delicious coffee. Personally we recommend Lavazza coffee as it works really well with this proper Italian coffee maker. If you are still reading this why have you not gone and bought one of these right away! Treat yourself to a proper coffee tomorrow morning!
