Sterling Secure Steel Gate & Railings Postbox, Black, Large, MB25BK

This is pretty much the only solution available for fitting a mailbox behind a gate or fence, with a rear door for access. It is generally well finished powder coated steel and fairly robust. It arrived well packed and damage free. It weighs 8.9kgs and was cumbersome to fit. To avoid damaging the powder coating, installation is best a two man job. Otherwise I struggled a bit and used nylon tiewraps to temporarily lash the horizontal bars to the outside of the gate (threaded studs facing towards the property), but then you have to mount the steel box over four threaded studs before reaching inside to tighten the nuts inside the mailbox. So it's best to have someone else guide and hold the box in place while you tighten the nuts inside, or there's a risk of it slipping off and maybe damage the paint. I added some M6 washers (not supplied), and you might consider using wing nuts instead. Once tightened up, the mailbox was totally secure. I sourced a separate black vinyl label 100 x 50mm saying 'Post' in white (in the Post Office typeface) off the internet, for a smart finish. The only issue was getting the postie to close the flap down again, it is not spring loaded and was initially left half open. But the mail inside is pretty secure. A rubber surround seals most of the rear door though there are some small gaps by the hinges, no sign of rain getting in yet. There are drainage holes. We'll have to see how rust resistant it is. It's made in China. Overall a neat solution, definitely best fitted with extra help.

Excellent product

Its an expensive box but it does the job very well. I have no problems with water getting inside & it rains here a lot! Easy to install and it has a substanial opening for letters & small packages to be easily deposited inside. Its a heavy duty box and feels very good quality, so im sure it will last years.

Brilliant post box, fit for purpose. Well made. Only 3 starts as the key is difficult to insert and has now caused scratches/damage to the lock where we've.tried to get the key in the lock. Now too late to return the product.

Great product, well build good designe, so far no water filters into the box, very Happy with the buy, recommend.

If I could give zero I would. .. this is just typical of cheap nasty inferior manufacturing . The cheap nasty horrible screws do NOT support the weight of this box and as a consequence bend. Making it impossible to secure properly. We have had to saw through the offending screw remove it and go to Wickes to buy some properly made screws which actually are of decent quality. Also note it is wise to put rubber between the fixings and railings to prevent chafing and rust . Needless to say this is not supplied. A bigger piece of crap design and manufacturing is hard to imagine,. A disgraceful piece of accounts led cost cutting garbage. Don’t buy

Perfect for the railings on my front,plenty big enough for most mail,robust and still waterproof after 6 months.

Good Product, it does the job perfectly. Easy to install on a railing. Looks discrete and keeps the mail safe and dry.

I am tired of ordered being delivered damaged and going through the return process of needing to be home between 9am-7pm the next day for the return pick up window of time.
