Hi I'm bit clueless with this but.... my son says he wants this game, iv seen the starter set but can someone advice of these are extras to go with it

Just to update, previous comments about the starter set are right, but there are now two starter sets. Either of them are a great place to start.

Why is the release date the 27th of September when Wizards of the Coast have promoted a world wide date of the 19th?

Because the US is a larger market so they treat the rest of the world as a lesser priority.

Is this ok for a new DM to use?

Yes, however, you will need the core books to use this. This particular adventure is open-ended so will need to be thoroughly read and understood before you begin. Its Indiana Jones-style exploring and tomb raiding and half dungeon delve, and it’s going to be a blast, especially if you like exploration, temples and tombs. You can search for the stream of annihilation on twitch and can listen to some playthrough to give you an idea.

What are the dimensions of the pull out map at the back?

Sorry Harry I don't have the book to hand but if memory serves me right its a double sided map which gives a scale of 1 hex to 10feet and is around 32" X 22" there were also some free maps of the locations with Dragon+.
