So many DIY jobs become a pain - this was easy and 100% effective
I recently found that there was a constant trickle of water from the toilet cistern into the pan. The cistern has a Fluid Master flapper valve that I fitted in 2011 and I noticed that when it was in the shut position it wasn't forming a water tight seal any more. After lots of fiddling about and no success (in fact, I ended up making things worse so that the trickle became a proper flow!), I discovered through blogs that the flapper mechanism often become distorted after typically 5 years of use and need to be replaced. There's no need to replace the whole flush mechanism, just the red valve. I ordered a replacement flapper valve and installed it within 10 minutes (the bit that took longest was fiddling to get the chain to the right length). Note that Fluid Master produces 3 variants of the flapper valve - the one I needed was a 502, so should you need to replace yours please just check that yours looks the same as this one; if not, it could be a 501 or 504 variant.

I purchased and paid for two items but only received one items in the post.
As above, I still wait for the second unit which I don't think will arrive now. The unit is very good, fits our cistern with ease and furthermore, works very well. Delivered 2 Jul 2020 (One Item only) Fluidmaster 502P21 Adjust-A-Flush, Red, 2 in £16.56 Buy it again View your item

If you've found this, you should probably buy it.
I bought a house, which happened to have one of these installed in the toilet. A year in the toilet started 'dripping' (this plug seemed to have lost a perfect seal). Probably due to living in a hard-water area and build-up on the rubber. Tried to clean it, which helped a little. Tried to spin the plunger around (notionally supposed to control the flow, but was just doing this to try to get a better seal). I think the problem is that once the limescale is on, the rubber deforms, and although you can remove the limescale the rubber is still deformed and loses the perfect seal. Long and the short of it is that I just bought a new replacement and that solved the problem immediately. 3 years later, same problem, but for a few pounds I fixed it. It's annoying that this appears to be a 'consumable' for toilet maintenance, but I appreciate that the replacement part is readily available and seems to be priced fairly.

Easy replacement - works well
Perfect replacement. If you're looking at this I imagine you know what it is. The old one had become hard over time and so didn't form a good seal. As a result there was a constant leak from cistern into toilet bowl. This in turn meant a fill up every 10 minutes or so which irritated me and was also a waste of water. Replaced it in about 30 seconds - not fiddly at all and works great. Lets see how long this one lasts. If it's less than 2 years I'll come back and knock a star off.

Easy fix to leaking flappers.
I changed my toilets to use these flapper style flushers about 7 years ago. They are better than siphon systems because they are simpler, easier to adjust the flush rate and should last longer. However, they had both started leaking because the rubber had gone solid and wasn't making a good seal. These take 2 minutes to replace (really) and are lovely soft rubber again but also are a bit wider so they more fully cover the hole underneath rather than trying to fit into it exactly. Work perfectly.
