Remove the guards and your good.
As many others have said, this doesn't initially fit the Silverline grinder that the wheel gets recommended with, but it does fit when you remove the outer guard and then it will probably spin. But, it will hit the side of the inside guard, and if you remove that too then you're good to go.To be honest you're probably better off with the guards removed anyway since you have much more room to get bigger objects up against the wheel, and to get underneath it, and around the sides. And if you're cleaning anything that has a bit of a curve to it, you're going to have to remove the guards anyway.Just be done with it and remove the inner and outer guards. The Silverline grinder itself is weak. Well it's not, but it is. It gets its power by building up speed slowly; it doesn't have a lot of torque so if the wheel isn't free initially it won't be able to get up to speed. But once it's up to speed it's just fine.I for one am quite happy to get a bench grinder and wire wheel for £25 odd quid. I'll be over there, shining and grinding everything in my house, if you need me.

Decent basic item
Firstly, bought this to work with silverline's 150w bench grinder. You MUST take the guard off before fitting the wire wheel, otherwise it will foul the unit, if you can't figure this out, do not operate machinery like this!. Also use safety glasses in case of stray wires flying off.My only gripe is that the spindle on the bench grinder is larger than the 12mm adapters for the wire wheel (various sizes included), you would have thought they would have made some fit the spindles of their own branded machine.~note~ grinding wheel removed from grinder shows 12.7mm hole size.Had to file/trim the plastic adapters to fit the grinder spindle.Apart from that, the grinder span up ok for 150w, and the wheels spin true and fine, used briefly but work fine, can't get cheaper, would have been 5 stars if plastic adapters were correct size.

Effective on iron, but be careful..
As described by others the wheel is a bit wide for replacing a carborundum wheel, although my grinder has just about enough room. The diameters of the spacer kit are in inches rather than millimetres, so a lot of metric spindles will be the wrong size. You can't really trim the 1/2 inch spacer to 16mm and remain safe as the wheel will be unbalanced. I was lucky in that the old carborundum wheel had spacers of the right size. I would emphasise that the fact that the wires touch the sides of the grinder housing means they will shed occasionally. and being radial in construction are ideal for lancing your eye, so do not under any circumstances omit eye protection. The plastic guards that should be mounted on your grinder are also needed, and not as an alternative. The wires are fairly hard, so brass, aluminium and copper will be abraded. I'd advise use only on steel and iron, do not exceed the rotational speed limit and stand a bit to one side. This, as they say, is not a toy, though to be fair there are many products which if mis-used, worn or unbalanced can be dangerous.

reasonable quality
bought for use on einhell bench grinder. disc reasonable qulity but grinder was pants, so can't give 100% accurate review. easy to install, cleaned paint and rust off metal parts quite well, and has lost very few of it's bristles. price has increased by around £1.50 since august last year, but still a reasonable buy

Just the job
Perfect for removing rust and tarnish. No problems with loose bristles. Various washer sizes supplied to suit various spindle sizes.

It’s only ok...
Bought this to fit to a Clarke 6” bench grinder. None of the supplied fittings were an exact match so could not centre wheel on the spindle without adding electrical tape around it. Once in place secured with grinder fittings ok. In use it does the job but has spread and opened out more than I would expect from fairly light use. Overall it is ok but I will replace at some point with a better one (though I expect this will be hard to find).
