Sealey AK219 TRX-Star/Spline/Hex Bit Set 42 Piece 3/8 and 1/2sq Drive

I bought these to remove the bolts when replacing the tailgate latch on my Mk4 VW Golf estate. (The usual thing had happened, where the washer/wiper unit had broken internally, spilling water down into the latch mechanism and destoying the electrics in it. Weird symptoms resulted, including the alarm going off when opening the tailgate. All fixed now.) I never knew there were so many different kinds of star/spline fittings. It took a bit of googling and wikipedia-ing to determine that this was the right set, ...but it was the right set and it worked fine. They look like good quality bits with a comprehensive range of sizes and lengths, from a reputable manufacturer and at a good price. They come in a good strong case too, and that is important to my mind, as tools you can't find, or a set which is missing that one size you need when you need it, are useless.

I bought this set to replace an identical set which I bought in the mid 1990s,because in my work as a motor mechanic I use bits from this set daily,and over the years I have lost,broken and worn some of them out and its cheaper and easier to buy a new set than try to buy individual replacements.But as I said I use them daily over and over again,and I also use them in my air gun,so far I havent broken one while using it with the air gun.The product is great and most of my workmates also have the same set and they too buy a second set to use as replacements.When I saw this set on Amazon I couldnt believe the price as my usual supplier wanted almost twice the price,so now I check out tools on Amazon for the great deals.

A nice set of machined tools but be careful with the 3/8 ad 1/2 adapters provided. I've been needing a new set of these meaning to purchase them for a while now, for the price you can't go wrong really, a nice set of tools. However I would be extremely careful if working on engines as the ball bearing inside the adapter fell out whilst I was fitting an air intake manifold... This would have been catastrophic if it got inside of the open air intake I was working on when fitting a new cylinder head! I saw the metal ball and thought where on earth did this come from? I later noticed it had come from the 3/8 adapter. It would have been 5 stars otherwise.

I always make a point of buying Sealey tools, as they are strong, excellent quality and well made! Definitely value for money!

Very handy tools to have in your tool box. Easily reaches into the tight spots with thes extended pieces and I've not stripped one yet so they are of good quality metal. I bought these for my motorbike but most cars have the Torx bolts fitted these days so a good addition for any machanic!

Very good product especially for the price. Those bits can survive heavy hammering (literally) without complaining. They are defitelly hardened/tempered etc and they will strip the bolt before breaking (how do I know? The hard way...). One thing to keep in mind, the whole box is quite big and I had to find another place for it than in my tool box. They even come preserved in some kind of oil so you dont have to worry about the rust (my draper set started to change colour after just two weeks on the shelf in my garage and needed some WD40 to keep it in the good shape). Overall very good quality.
