My Favourite HA Serum for Combination Skin: Zero Stinging & Better Hydration than the Original
Overview: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (2026 formula with ceramides) is a game-changer for sensitive, combination skin, offering exceptional barrier repair and non-greasy hydration without irritation. As someone with combination skin - oily T-zone and sensitive, dry patches - finding the right barrier repair can be a balancing act. I have used various hyaluronic acid (HA) serums from high-end brands, but the 2026 updated formula from The Ordinary (HA 2% + B5 with Ceramides) is a standout budget-friendly essential. Pros: ✅ Deep Hydration without Greasiness: Balances oily T-zones while deeply hydrating dry patches. ✅ Zero Irritation for Sensitive Skin: The advanced formula eliminates stinging common with basic HA serums. ✅ Strengthens Skin Barrier: Added ceramides and Pro-Vitamin B5 lock in moisture and promote barrier repair (reduces TEWL). ✅ Non-Comedogenic & Lightweight: Safe for acne-prone skin; won't cause breakouts or clogged pores. ✅ Improved Texture: The updated 2026 formula has a silky finish; no tackiness or pilling under makeup. Cons: ❌ Requires Sealing for Very Dry Areas: Users with severe dry patches may still need to use an oil-based moisturiser on top. ❌ Application Matters: Must be applied to damp skin to work effectively and prevent dehydration (requires a specific application technique). Why this is a permanent part of my 2026 routine Zero Irritation for Sensitive Areas: Many HA serums cause a 'stinging' sensation on redness-prone areas. This formula feels incredibly soothing, likely due to the multi-molecular weight blend of five HA forms and skin-identical ceramides. Balancing Combination Skin: It is exceptionally lightweight and non-comedogenic, so it doesn't feel heavy on my oilier areas. It provides enough deep hydration to make my dry patches feel plump and supple - perfect for achieving that glass skin look. Ceramides are the Game-Changer: While standard HA serums can sometimes feel superficial, the addition of Pro-Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) and ceramides strengthens the skin barrier, keeping moisture locked in for much longer. Improved Texture (No Stickiness): I know the original formula was known for being tacky or pilling under makeup. This updated version is not. It dries down to a smooth, silky finish that layers perfectly. Application Tip for Maximum Absorption I apply 2-3 drops to damp skin immediately after cleansing. This prevents 'flash drying' and ensures the HA doesn't draw moisture out of the deeper layers. I then seal it with an oil-based moisturiser on my drier areas to prevent TEWL (Trans-Epidermal Water Loss). If you have oily to normal skin, this is hydrating enough to use as a standalone moisturiser in humid weather! Improved Texture: I have read that the original formula was tacky. The updated version is not. It dries down to a smooth, comfortable finish that layers perfectly under other products or makeup without pilling. It contains ceramides and Pro-vitamin B5, which genuinely strengthen the skin barrier. Don't be surprised by the slight yellow tint; it’s natural and helps confirm you have the new 2026 formula! Visible Results: I noticed an instant plumping effect and minimised dehydration lines. The real change in my skin's softness and overall barrier health appeared after about 3 weeks of consistent use. Final Verdict This is a fantastic, high-quality serum that finally addresses the needs of multiple skin needs and is suitable for sensitive, dry, combination and oily. skin types. It offers luxury-level performance at a very accessible price point!

Bargain Beauty that works!
Fantastic product. I used to use the Skin Ceuticals version which I loved. This is a nice replacement. Maybe not as fab but good and great value. Clean product not sticky. Gives slight glow.

It works, but in my opinion it feels more like a mid to lower range product
The serum does what it promises in terms of hydration, and it feels fine on the skin. However, I personally find it a bit overrated for the price and reputation. In comparison, I have achieved similar or even better results with more affordable options, such as L’Oréal’s hyaluronic acid serum. It works, but in my opinion it feels more like a mid to lower range product rather than a high end one. Suitable if you want a basic hydrating serum, but it did not stand out for me.

Highly recommend
Absolutely brilliant stuff! Noticed a difference in my skin since using it for a week.I make sure to put a warm flannel on my face before applying to open the pores, then moisturise after as it can leave the skin feeling a bit tight

Good serum
Good serum, nothing fancy but does the job. Not too sticky but I found if I apply moisturiser on straight away it can cause piling. So I found if I wait 10-15 minutes it doesn’t. No crazy smell and my skin which is extremely sensitive seems to like it.

so/so
It was okay, but I won't repurchase it. Not as hydrating as I would have liked.
