Works fine with Fenix 5 watch
I use this with a Garmin Fenix 5 watch. Connects perfectly - however can take a minute or so for initial connection so I connect in advance of leaving for a hike. I do this by going the temperature screen on the watch which will automatically connect.Easily connected to a bag, I always make sure its on the same side as my arm to prevent connection issues.I still occasionally see the odd dropped connection. It reacts to changes in temperature reasonably quickly - Within 5 minutes of leaving the house its dropped from room to outdoor temperature. On the watch it shows the temperature to 1 decimal place. However when you download the data to your computer it removes anything after the decimal place and converts to a whole number - seriously reducing accuracy. And its not rounding up or down - where 3.9 degrees becomes 4 degrees and 3.1 becomes 3. No it simply removes the decimal place and anything after. So 3.9 is recorded as 3. and 3.1 is also recorded as 3!A real shame as it lessens what is a good product.Nevertheless its better than using the internal watch thermometer which just measures wrist temperature!

It connects to the vivoactive HR fine, only thing I find with it is that it takes ages for it to be picked up properly by the vivoactive once paired and I need to put the watch and tempe sense right next to each other a few times before it finds it (this happens with most other sensors I have though) Temperature is very accurate and have verified against a calibrated atmospheric sensor and displays only a .3 variance when I check. It comes with a little clip that you can put round a strap on your bag or clipped to your laces on a trainer for example so that it can taken around with you easily. Works with all vivoactive profiles at present if turned on in the settings so you can see temperatures during your activities.

Part of the reason I bought a new Garmin Montana!
Update: 16 May 2013 - its been loosely fixed with a single tiewrap under the topbox on my motorcycle for 2 months now, the Garmin Montana pairs with it when ever it comes close enough. I do like the way it holds the highest and lowest temperatures over the previous 24hrs, that's really neat. I've setup data fields in the Montana that show Highest, current and lowest temperature. The actual sensor I think is ether inside the case or its response is damped as it shows a nice even trace both on the Montana and on the Basecamp program if you upload the tracklog. I've made it 5 star now, its a nice little bit of kit, well done Garmin!_________________Update: 13 March 2013 - Bought a second Tempe from Amazon, this time I put the merest trace of silicon lubricant (GT85) onto the O ring with a cotton bud, worked like a charm, cover fitted first time. I've raised my star rating to a 4_________________Tempe - I bought one from Amazon as a Christmas present to myself (to pair with my Garmin Montana); frankly, the only issue I have with it is getting the battery cover on. Mine just would not turn to lock in place, I did finally get it on with the aid of a tiny smear of silicon grease around the O ring seal but by then the seal was damaged and I had to return it as defective :(BTW, the device has no on/off switch. Putting the battery in switches it on and in theory it keeps transmitting the temperature for the next 12 months or so till the battery dies. Next time I'll put that tiny trace of silicon grease on before I try to fit the cover...

Pot luck
It's a shame because Garmin kit is normally brilliant. But with the Tempe, it seems to be a total gamble as to whether you get one that works or not.Mine connected no problem but the temperature was constantly wrong. Pointless if it doesn't give the right temperature.

Temperature affects performance
I bought this at Amazon because the bottom line cost was less than buying the same product from the manufacturer, even though Garmin had offered me a 10% discount for having bought another of their products. Amazon's delivery service was excellent, keeping me informed from the moment of submitting my order through to the delivery at my address.I'm very pleased with the Tempe sensor. I have it paired with two GPS products so whichever one of those I use I know the air temperature when I go hiking or when I go cycling. When hiking I can clip the sensor to my jacket or backpack. When cycling I secure the sensor underneath my saddle (to avoid the sun shining on it and giving a false reading) by using reusable zip ties.I keep my bike in the garage. When I am in my living room. preparing for a ride, my GPS unit can receive the Tempe sensor's signal. That means I have a good idea of the temperature to expect when I get on my way. Knowing the temperature, and changes while en route, helps me adjust my performance to allow for differences in temperature when at the top of a range of hills and when in the valleys. Yes, the sensor reacts very quickly to the fluctuations.I'm pleased

Very Easy To Set Up
Got the Garmin Tempe Sensor today, first thing it states in the product details that 'Batteries : 1 CR2 batteries required', this totally incorrect as the device comes with a CR2032 battery all ready to install. As stated before it really helps to put a very small amount of silicone grease applied via a cotton wall bud and I mean very small amount. The Garmin Tempe External Temperature Sensor connected up to my Garmin Oregon 700 straight away by following the use manual and some googled video clips. Tested the device by placing into the fridge and watched the temperature drop so looks as if the device is working correctly. Overall very pleased so far with this product, may well update later as I come to use it.
