Solid Game
Overall this is a pretty fun game if you are interested in medieval strategy and resource management. It's not all crazy action all the time, has a good leveling system, battlefield strategy interface, and there are different roles to play, which incentivizes multiple playthroughs. I think $40 is a fair price for this game, but it might be better to wait just a little bit for the normal $10 discount.

Good, but could be better
First off, I loved mount and blade warband. For it's time it was an amazing game. I bought bannerlord for the xbox one series x console. The game is good, but there are some issues. You must save often because when you visit a town the loading screen frequently freezes, and there's nothing you can do except turn off the console and restart the game at your last save. I recently had a glitch where an enemy got stuck inside a castle wall during a seige. It was impossible to kill the enemy. The game had to be reloaded and started from the last save. There is also very little voice acting and lots of script to read. I thought that after so many years Tale Worlds would have advanced enough to hire some voice actors rather than printing words on the screen. Oh well.. I have played sandbox mode for dozens of hours and have not received one achievement. Even after reaching level 33, and ruling over 4 towns and multiple castles. The achievements are either broken or disabled in sandbox. Could have been better.*Update March 2023.*Still playing this game, and it's definitely fun to play, but recently has become frustrating. The game has been patched a few times, most recently in March 2023. The patches were supposed to fix bugs and crashes, but the game now crashes more than it did before the most recent patch. It would be nice to play the game without having to save every 5-10 minutes for fear it will crash and you have to start at the last save point.03-15-2024. Still crashing after multiple patches. After a recent update some save files fail to load. Down to one star. Lol.

Nothing else like it
There is not another game like this. I used to love lords of the realm 2, and this, at the end of the day, a modern version of that. You start on a massive map, in charge of a small band of basic troops, I think 6 or so. You have rpg character traits that you can improve for yourself. You own no property, you are basically a band of mercenaries. Your troops can be individually upgraded in multiple ways as they get experience. Archers, pikemen, sword and shield, calvary, calvary archers. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, until they get to the top tier. You can recruit more at every town. You make the towns leaders happy? They have more troops to recruit.Make money by trading unique supplies, buy low sell high system. By completing quests for leaders found everywhere. By defeating other bands of troops. By raiding/stealing from villages/caravans.Bandits are everywhere. Catch them on the map, then you go to a battle field, based on the terrain you met them on. In the mountains? Mountain terrain. Was there a bridge? There is a bridge in the middle of the battle field. Was it near a village? You fight amongst the homes and gardens. Battles are as big as the number of troops you have. I play on Xbox so there are still limits, maybe around 500-1000 on the map at once.Your command you troops, you see via your character in 3rd person view, or first person.Crossbows, bows, lances, swords, aces, maces, shields, javelins, you arm yourself however you can afford, however you prefer. Your troops are armed.based on what class they are, and how you hire them or level them. When you win a battle, you get money, renown, equipment, supplies, and prisoners. You can use it, or sell it at the next town. Prisoners may join you over time. Or just sell them. When you lose a battle, you quit the game and reload to you last save :), or you are captured! They will drag you around the map until you ESCAPE. you will have no troops, but all of your money, so you'll need to head to a village or town and start recruiting again. With some settings, you can DIE if you die in battle. I think the basic settings that will only happen if you are very old.You can find companions. Individual characters that you can pay to join you. They have all the same abilities you have, with individual equipment you can change, and individual rpg elements that you can choose as they level up. You can make these companions lead their own bands of troops, helping them level faster and giving you larger forces, as there are limits on troop size (that can be increased GREATLY over time). There are many kingdoms. They fight each other. You can join a kingdom, and fight as a vassal for their king, or you can join one as a mercenary, staying somewhat independent, but helping them for a price. If you join as vassal, they will start giving you castles and towns. That have building queues to make them stronger and richer. You can assign companions or family members to govern these towns and castles, using there heritage and or rpg skills to improve them faster, keep them defended better.THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE THIS GAME.RPG, massive battles, troop recruitment/upgrades, simple town management, relations to other characters, marriage, kids, YOU EVENTUALLY OF DIE FROM OLD AGE, after an extremely long time, passing on your line to your successor. Are they as strong as you had been?
