Very tough texture. I cooked peas for three hours and they were still tough. A tough split pea is usually due to being old. Would not buy this product again

This appears to be a great quality product
Really quick shipping! This appears to be a great quality product! I used the seeds for decoration purposes only. Every seed sprouted. They grew fast and the blades s appear moist and healthy.I soaked them for 24 hours prior to planting in soil and sprinkling a fine layer of soil on top.The first pic is at the end of day 3 and the 2nd is end of day 7! Worked out great for me!I am trying to learn what info is the most helpful in reviews. If really appreciate it if you'd let me know if this helps or not! Thanks alot!!

Grainy.
This is my first time having yellow peas. They seem less flavorful than green ones. Though they are split, they still take awhile to cook. I soaked mine overnight. I also noticed that they have a grainy quality to them, like other dried beans can get.Not my favorite bean, but they store well.Note: I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest review.

Fabulous, a pantry staple at a great value!!
I received this item at a discount in exchange for my review, but all opinions are honest and are my own.I have long gotten into the habit of using dried beans for cooking, my pantry is stocked with every type of bean, grain, lentil, etc., and I'm always ready to add new items. Being a vegetarian, I need multiple sources of protein and fiber. I have other products from Hunza, so I did not hesitate to purchase their 2lb bag of yellow split peas. For one, the bag is a great bargain, 2 pounds will last quite a long time! Second, the bag is resealable and stands upright! Huge bonus for my pantry, I don't have to find another container to move it into in fear of spills or holes..the bag is thick and sturdy. Thirdly, the quality of Hunza products is above any other. Organic, there are no duds or rocks mixed in...the product has been picked through and sorted to ensure only the best is left. One time my husband found a small pebble or rock in a bag from our grocery store! You don't have to worry about that with Hunza. My first recipe I tried is one I got from Allrecipes.com, and I'll share it below. Buy this product!Lentil and Yellow Split Pea Soup Made with a Pressure CookerIngredients* 1 cup red lentils* 1 cup yellow split peas* 1 large onion, coarsely chopped* 2 carrots, coarsely chopped* 5 cloves garlic, chopped* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin* 8 cups chicken broth* salt and ground black pepper to taste* 1 teaspoon lemon juice, or to taste*Directions* Place the lentils, split peas, onion, carrots, garlic, and cumin into a pressure cooker, and stir in the chicken broth. Seal the cooker, bring to pressure over medium heat, and reduce heat to keep the pressure stable; cook under pressure for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, and allow pressure to subside. When the cooker is at normal pressure, remove the cover, season with salt and pepper and stir in lemon juice to serve.

Healthy, great base for vegetarian soups and stews
These are delicious! I was looking for something to cook for a vegan friend, and I came across a recipe for Yellow Split Pea soup with Smoked Hungarian Paprika (which replaces the smoky meaty taste in traditional split pea soup). Served with some crusty bread, a green salad, and good wine, it made a spicy, warming winter meal. The bag was big enough that I also made a big pot of curried split pea and sweet potato soup (also vegan, since I used coconut milk!).Other benefits:-I like that you don't have to soak split peas and can just cook them right in the soup (my soup took about 2 hours of simmering).-I was pleased to find that yellow split peas are super high protein and high fiber.-This particular brand of Yellow Split Peas was really high quality, much better than the last one I bought (from Vitacost) -- each one was perfect and clean, required very little in the way of picking through and washing.-Although you can use them to make Indian foods, these are not "toor dal" (split pigeon peas) or "chana dal" (split yellow gram, desi chickpeas); those are from other legume species. I like these yellow split peas better than the dal version - these have a mild, creamy flavor and a more substantial size.Food nerd moment:I was wondering what the difference was between yellow and green split peas, since they don't seem to have much difference in taste. Wikipedia kindly informed me that: "These two colors reflect some of the work of Gregor Mendel, who studied the inheritance of seed color in peas. The green phenotype is recessive to the yellow one. Traditionally, the genotype of purebred yellow is "YY" and that of green is "yy", and hybrids of the two, "Yy", have a yellow (dominant) phenotype." Ok, food nerd moment over! I purchased the product at a discount in exchange for my unbiased review. My unbiased opinion is that these are pretty delicious.
