The Deadline Effect

I love this book. It is beautifully written and chock full of interesting new information and insights. It explains how and why deadlines work to defeat their “evil opposite” procrastination. Deeply researched, it offers a wide range of examples from history, psychology and organization behavior, focusing on effective organizations and truly getting things done.As an added bonus, it’s a pleasurable read. The author is a charming presence throughout the book with witty asides that add humor and grace to an already excellent book.

Not much practical advice on avoiding procrastination but interesting reading on how various organizations meet deadlines. If you need hands on advice this book is not for you. If you are interested in steps specific organizations have taken to meet deadline unique to them, it is enjoyable.

This is a very interesting book that gives nine engaging stories that are fun to read. The author is witty and smart sharing his helpful advice about handling deadlines while creating great characters and great insight into many very different businesses. The Best Buy, the Jean George and the last responders are my three favorites. Don’t miss the introduction and the story about Galois. Loved this fun book!

Throughly informing book on managing the effects on dealing with various work deadlines. It is applicable for all stages of life for individuals and companies.

To “illustrate” the sparse “how-to” steps of the Deadline Effect, the author pads this book with novelettes about a restaurant chain, a ski resort, etc. About 10% of the text actually illustrates the steps, and the rest is just not interesting. I suggest buying a used paperback copy and skimming it for the few bits of useful advice.
