This step down adaptor is essential if you have purchased a piece of electrical equipment from the US and need to convert it to UK wattage. I had some issues (used for hi-fi equipment), distortions, and speed issues on the turntable. After investigation, we found - a problem with the step down transformer. The transformer does not have 110v like declared, but 120v! Replaced to the better quality transformer, issues are gone.

It works great with light loads. I own 3 of them HOWEVER my son plugged in a candy floss maker (500W) and blew the power to half the house. Since then this device does not work. In fact, plug it into any plug without a load attached and it makes a loud pop, smoke comes out, and the power goes out in half the house. On investigation, there is no trip switch or reset inside or outside the device. I also discovered the plug is fitted with a 13A fuse!!! Why? If the output is 110V and it can handle 200W max load, why not fit a 2A fuse in the plug to protect the device? Unfortunately it appears i am beyond the date to return the device but I will be replacing it because it works great on my US made TVs, computers and lights.

Please be aware the primary winding of this transformer is not isolated from secondary winding
