Battle vs. Chess (Germany)

While I haven't played to many chess games on the PS3, this game it very unique and something different. You can play different scenarios and various challenges. Of course there is classic chess play as well. The main scenario story has interesting levels and I feel it has helped me with my chess experience, even though it is very unique. It's hard to describe how this game stands out of other chess games. If you play the battle aspect of it, you have varied button icons that come up in a sequence that you press. Then your little chess character piece responds as if fighting in an actual battle. Each chess piece has it's own animation that responds to the battle in it's own way. Let me stress don't expect full on war excitement here, this is chess after all. While the story is rather linear, the game is fun to play, cause it's so different. From novice to experienced chess players, this game should be fun for them. Experienced chess players will appreciate the challenge scenarios and novice players will have fun with battle animations. All chess players should not pass this one up.

The chess in this game seems to take second place to the boring, trite "story".Angels against demons, in a "campaign" where you use different combinations of pieces to complete some objective.The odd looking "fantasy" pieces are hard to tell apart -on a 90" HD projection screen!- so I had the default set to 2d pieces (like in books & magazines).Even the 3d Staunton pieces were not great because of the weird board angles.You spend very little time playing chess early on.You just practice the moves of various weird-looking pieces to advance the "story".There is no reason why you are using 8 pawns and 2 bishops this time, you just are.It seems like they knew you needed to practice such things so they dropped you on a board.Nothing ties the "events" together except a cut scene.It is not even decent tactical training (IMO) because none of the stuff I had to do ever happened in a real game.It would have been better (IMO) if the campaign started with some sort of Opening for white and black while slowly building up to a variation or two: "Storming the enemy castle"?Then working on a a Middlegame with some tactics and strategic principles: "Laying siege to the Fortress?"Then the Endgame where you break down the gates: "Capturing the King?"You could have side missions where you develop pieces, learn how they move, learn basic traps and motifs, develop tactics & combinations via small skirmishes, blocking trade routes, capturing spies, whatever.DLC and expansions could have more openings, side missions, Kings, (chess engines)...No, I do not have the time or resources to write such a game myself.Maybe BvC would have improved but I got bored and played "Pure Chess" instead, which was only $8 in the Playstation Store.BvC is pretty but I wanted to play chess, not be bombarded with the names of "archangels".

My 9 year old asked me to get this game for him. He loves it! He played with his dad, another 9 year old friend, and by himself. He and dad play strategy and focus on the chess game. He and his friend focus on the Harry Potteresque part of the game where the characters battle each other to the death! It's a fun game that has strategy, battles, and entertainment as the chess characters come to life in different settings and with different battles.

Better than I remembered for the computer. This game would be even better if I could get someone else to play with me

This game is a great way to play chess when you have no one around to play it with. Also I like the characters and boards to and enjoy this game immensely.

it actually makes playing chess fun i had to start with the classical pieces instead of the animated till i learn the pieces i know some people are worried about getting one that works on a north american ps3 well for the one that i got it does work

It could be better, but for being the only option out there it's jawsome. This is a Euro import, but works on US Play Stations for all those concerned.

Bought this for my 9yr old, he plays it for practice for his chess club. He loves it.

Die Idee der animierten Schachpartie wurde wieder einmal erfolgreich auf einer aktuellen Plattform verwirklicht.Im Playstation network finden sich jederzeit Spieler. Das Regelwerk wurde bis ins letzte Detail beachtet. Die Darstellung lässt sich jederzeit nach Bedarf auch in der Partie anpassen um die Übersichtlichkeit für eine strategische Betrachtungsweise zu erhöhen, welche in der 3D Darstellung ein wenig leidet, diese aber eher dem Spielspass dient als ihn zu schmälern.Schon damals auf dem Amiga war das Spiel ein voller Erfolg, wenn auch auf Grund der Genre das Spiel in den Top Ten eher nicht zu finden war. Es bietet dennoch Potenzial zur Verbesserung, was auch in Zukunft auf eine dem dann geltenenden Standart des Entertainment mit eventuell mehr als nur zwei animierten Fraktionen zur Auswahl hoffen lässt. Eventuell wird dies aber irgendwann in Zukunft dank der heutigen Erweiterungsmöglichkeiten als Addon zum download bewerkstelligt. Denn bis auf ein paar winziger Kleinigkeiten sehe ich keine Möglichkeit ein Spiel wie Battle vs Chess noch besser zu gestallten.

Für Trophyhunter jedenfalls interessant. Alle Achievements sind innerhalb weniger Stunden zu erreichen wenn man sich an diverse Anleitungen hält. Der Wiederspielwert selbst ist für mich persönlich durchaus gegeben.

Ein Weihnachtsgeschenk an unseren Sohn (10 Jahre).Grafik und Darstellung sind super.Für Schachfreunde, die ein bischen Aktion mögen ein muss.Einstellungsmöglichkeiten sind vorhanden ob klassisches Schach oder halt Abenteuer.

Hier ist alles bestens, das Spiel ist perfekt, es macht das spielen Spass, mit einen spannenden Geschichte, das würde ich jederzeit wieder kaufen

Mein Enkel erhielt dieses Spiel zu Weihnachten. Er kam in den verschiedenen Levels sehr gut zurecht. Auch unsere 2. Enkel (/ Jahre) spielt das Spiel gerne.
