One of the most incredible Lego sets ever made.Every inch a super detailed wonder
I am just awestruck. This is oneof the largest Lego sets ever made. And it is astonishing at how incredibly complex and feature rich it is. This will easily find its way onto the list of all time greatest Lego sets.Fans of Ninjago rejoice. We finally have a set of not just vehicles and dragons and robots, but of the actual world that they live in. It is a glorious multi tiered cyberpunk Modular Building. Effectively 6 stories.Yes you read that correctly I said Modular Building. This thing is more or less compatible with the Creator Expert Modular Buildings, having the same footprint and functioning as a corner, with the modular connector pins on the left and rear sides. Unfortunately due to the fact that the lowest level of this is a canal area the sidewalks dont really line up with the Modulars. But thats just a few minutes work to add some steps. The structure is 3 towers rising from the canal each having three levels "Lower City" "Commercial District" and "Upper City". Each level in turn has two floors. The left most tower is a working elevator that runs from top to bottom. The lower city is a fully tiled baseplate of a gorgeously rendered canal. It includes a number of walkways and bridges plus a fish market and the shed for the cities maintenance robot. There is also a small fighing boat for the canal. Just above the fish market is a small tea house and a small asian style apartment. The Middle section is by far the most detailed with an elevated sidewalk connecting the three towers. It includes swapable movie posters a Crab restaurant with working grill feature. A working ATM cash machine. The infamous Doomsday Comics complete with store owner Mother Doomsday. Above them is a large boutique with a ton of merchandise including Ninja training uniforms, and a small unfinished building that has been overgrown by a cherry tree. The Upper Level has a rooftop Sushi restaurant with working conveyer system, plus Lloyd and Misako's apartment from the movie. Also at the top level is the tall "Dragons Gate" tower on top of the building. It houses Ninjago's public rest room. Also up top are Ninjago's broadcast and communications towers and some nice fish themed sculptures.Throughout it all the city is littered with signage and details. It all has a very distinct cyberpunk feel to it. Think Blade Runner or The Fifth Element. All the signage is using the written Language Lego created for the Ninjago movie. All are translatable using the guide in the instruction books and they are wildly entertaining.Oh a word on the instructions. These are three THICK dense squarebound books. Each dedicated to a section of the city. And each includes deep history and information on that section of the city and its inhabitants. These aren't normal Lego instructions. These are gorgeous sourcebooks. Each different from the others. One of the more amazing things is the set actually looks good from any angle. It isn't skeletal from behind. Yes there is open air as the three towers are front facing, but the rear area forms a distinct detailed courtyard between them. All the buildings are fully walled. The City is a layer cake design, much like the Creator Expert Modular buildings. Each section and each floor stacking on the ones below. There are 9 pieces altogether. You will need to know how to take them apart and put them back together (not hard) as it's really the only way to move this monster. This thing is heavy. Do please give consideration to how much weight the shelf or table you put it on can hold. This is nearly 5000 pieces of Lego. This set has 16 minifigures. Almost all unique to the set. and rather amazingly for a Ninjago set, only three in combat gear. Jay, the one Shark bad guy and a hidden dummy wearing Lloyd's green ninja suit. Otherwise every other figure is a wonderful Ninjago civilian. In fact the only weapons in the set are the ones carried by Jay and the Shark Army guy. Highly unusual for a Ninjago set. Even with the included 16 figures it can feel a bit sparse. Thankfully the Lego Ninjago movie sets and the Ninjago movie collectable minifigure packs are a great source of even more civilian characters. (The Ninjago City Chase set is a great compliment to this being a very small set with civilian Nya Lloyd and a merchant)Overall the only thing keeping this from being an absolutely must have set is its price. Which is high. But it is an incredible value at price per piece. Especially when you account for the amazing volume of rare, unusual or spectacular pieces it uses. Every sub assembly is a super detailed work of art. Every section teaches you something new. The designers went all out. The only flaw to the set is its Catch 22 nature. By design this thing will be a kid magnet. It is the largest Ninjago set that likely ever will be. With tons of play value. But it is a super detailed set like the Creator Expert Modulars. So it has a lot of fragile fiddly and complicated detailing throughout. A lot of which will be shed in heavy play. It is also a very complex advanced build. Much more advanced than the standard Ninjago sets. Younger Lego fans will need some adult help. This is a project for the whole family. And the build is massive. Start to finish it will take an adult experienced builder 10-12 hours to complete this monster. And that's 10-12 hours of solid building time. This will likely take you several days to build. And you will enjoy every single moment of it, save perhaps the first steps of tiling the baseplate. This will be one of your all time favorite Lego sets. Oh and it is worth mentioning. Lego is releasing an expension or companion set to this in June 2018. Ninjago City Docks.

Ginormous Set with 41 Bags Full of LEGO Ninjago Fun!
There's nothing to make a day AMAZING quite like a massive box of LEGO! First of all, this box has some heft. It's a huge box with great images of the set. With the box opened, here's what we have: a whole bunch of bags of LEGO, plus 2 smaller (relatively) boxes and an instruction manual in 3 volumes with 2 sheets of stickers (one sheet of transparent, one sheet of opaque). The smaller boxes are plain white except for a 7 digit number printed on all sides. Within the smaller boxes are more bags of LEGO, a dark grey 32x32 base plate, and two sheets of stickers. The white box labeled "6210369" has the first set of bags, 1-5, plus the baseplate and an unlabeled bag with a few larger pieces in it. The white box labeled "6210372" has the next set of bags, 6-8, and 10. In the bottom of the main box are the remaining bags, 9, 11-16. In total there are 41 bags of LEGO bricks (not including bags within bags). I've seen a similar configuration in other sets, where there is a smaller box inside the larger box, and until now I didn't really see what it does. But with this huge set, it's clear. The two interior boxes help to maintain structural integrity of the components in the box so that the weight stays relatively evenly distributed, rather than settling on one side, which makes it easier for maneuvering the box. The structural integrity is necessary with a set of this size, coming in with a piece count that makes it the 5th largest LEGO set ever (so far). Yeah, it's big.The set contains a hefty instruction manual in 3 volumes (one for each level) that together measure just a little over 3/4 an inch thick. The first few pages of the manual have information about the model, photos, and text. There is a history of Ninjago City, interviews with the movie director and model designer, and a description of the minifigures and each level. A cool addition is a Ninjago language translator, so you can find hidden messages throughout the city written with this language and decode them. All text in the manuals is in English, French, and Spanish. The instructions themselves, in usual LEGO style, are all pictures and symbols. The last 8 pages of the manual is the listing of all of the pieces in the set - that's a lot of pieces! There are just over 560 pages in the 3-volume instruction manual. All told, there are 41 bags of LEGO divided into 16 numbered groups (and one unnumbered bag). Within some of the bags are smaller bags, usually containing smaller parts. When you build it, the instructions will have you build using the pieces from the bags labeled "1", then once those bags are completed, continue with the pieces from the bags labeled "2", and so on. I've found that it's useful to open all of the bags for the particular number, but keep the pieces a little bit separate. The pieces aren't randomly distributed between bags - instead, all of the pieces of a particular type may be in one or two bags, so if you dump the bags out and keep the pieces slightly separate, once you've found which pile your piece is in, you may find the rest of them in that same pile or in that one and one other. This is particularly useful in a set of this size. The set contains 17 minifigures: Kai, Jamanakai Villager, Sally, Ivy Walker, Sweep, Konrad, Severin Black, Mother Doomsday, Tommy, Guy, Juno, Lloyd Garmadon, Green Ninja Suit, Misako, Jay, Shark Army Gunner, and Officer Noonan. That's a pretty hefty lineup of minifigures.Take note that this set is a modular building, so it will connect with other modular buildings including Ninjago City Docks, Parisian Restaurant, Detective's Office, Downtown Diner, Assembly Square, etc. If you plan to take it apart again and rebuild it, a tip for rebuilding it - sort the pieces by types - I usually do something along the lines of "windows and doors", "big plates", "tiny pieces", color groups for pieces for which there are a reasonably large number of pieces, "random" for the pieces that don't really have a classification, and so on. I sort them in stackable trays so I can move them around as needed. Choose trays that have one background color (easier to find pieces against a simple background) and not the same color as your more popular pieces (black pieces on black background are really hard to see).I really like this set. It's a great set for any LEGO fan, especially if you like the Ninjago theme or the Modular Buildings (Creator Expert) theme. I love the larger sets, so anything with this many pieces is fantastic. This particular set is based on the Ninjago Movie, so if you're a KFOL (Kid Fan Of LEGO) or an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) this will be a lot of fun. Keep in mind that because of the large piece count and some potentially challenging build techniques, the age suggestion for this set is 16+. I've found that children younger than this age who are especially skilled at LEGO can enjoy this also, and it can be a great activity for parent and child to share.

Beautiful, vibrant, and all in all, absolutely worth it
Wow! Literally the best and most beautiful and colorful LEGO set I have ever seen and built. Even if you aren’t big on Ninjago, if you like Bladerunner, cyberpunk anime, or just colorful LEGO sets, then this one is for you. I was drooling over this set when it first came out 2 years ago but decided to hold off since it was so expensive and I’m not a huge Ninjago fan. Big mistake. I saw it pop up again and I couldn’t contain myself! Since the set is retired, the cost of it almost doubled now but I was able to find it on amazon for a cheap price since the box it came in was a little battered. Who cares though if it’ll save me $200! I’m definitely itching to get the Docks set now!

I'm not even done with it yet, and it is my favorite
Wow! I thought this set looked cool, but then saw a vid where it is combined with the upcoming Ninjago City Docks and that is what pushed me over the edge to get this, and I'm glad I did. (While anticipating the City Docks set to go with it.) You don't have to know the Ninjago as a movie or whatever it is to enjoy this set. If you like the "adult" Legos such as the Architecture and Creator Expert Modular sets you are going to love this one. Lots of great detail, textures, and fun to build. Instructions seem more broken down than in the Modular sets-- i.e. each bag number is only one or two bags, not five or six, so less parts out at one time and not so much sorting required at the start of each section. I know people want printed pieces over using stickers, but I'm finding all the stickers part of the fun of this set, using tweezers to place them on the bricks.
