"Bruce Willis (Die Hard) is Venice Beach P.I. Steve Ford: a detective who’s good with the ladies, bad with the punches, and wild about his dog, Buddy. But when his beloved pet is stolen by local thugs, Steve makes a questionable alliance with their devious leader, Spyder (Jason Momoa, “Game of Thrones”). Teaming up with his best friend (John Goodman, The Big Lebowski), Steve pulls out the big guns in search of Spyder’s stolen cocaine and cash in order to set things straight and get Buddy back where he belongs. Thomas Middleditch (“Silicon Valley”), Famke Janssen (X-Men), and Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle) co-star in this bullet-ridden action-comedy that shows just how far one man will go for his dog. Great acting, funny plot, beautiful actors and locations
Great acting, funny plot, beautiful actors and locationsThis quirky flick ended on a cliffhanger. I truly hope a sequel gets made. Hollywood can afford to make good on it's pledge to provide wholesome family entertainment everyone can watch. Please bring Bruce Willis out of retirement and give him his props- he's a great actor, giving us years of top-shelf performance over his decades long career.Good work all actors, crew and writers/directors. Bavo! This is why Hollywood exists

Hmmm, not exactly a boy and his dog, but - light hearted violence?
I am rather a big fan of Bruce Willis. We first saw Bruce Willis as a hard nosed funnyman and there is almost always a bit of humor in his work as in The Last Boy Scout - the very dark Last Man Standing departs from this.Once upon a Time in Venice follows in the mainstream of his work. This seems to be a run at Greek Comedy in form with a touch of 'slice of life'. We have a character who is charged with telling the story, several groups of chorus characters who offer embellishments. Threats and complications seem to fall out of the sky upon our central characters, and in the end catastrophe is avoided as in ancient greek comedies. Clearly they had fun doing this. It is also clear that a lustrous polish and expensive direction/editing were lower priorities than the casting and the screenplay. I was not wincing at foolish embarrassing characters, though some caricatures and stereotypes came close to the edge and escaped only through the writers 'hanging a lantern' on them.As others have noted, it is not at the same level as RED or RED2 (these are worth owning) - but good fun, none the less.

Great movie but packaging was a sticky mess!
The movie itself is great! I laughed over and over again at the comedy from Bruce Willis and Jason Momoa!! My issue is with packaging. The movie case sleeve was completely soaked in something sticky cause it to be stuck to movie case. I ended up having to rip it off of the case and then soak the case in hot water and scrub it to get the sticky stuff off. I'm not sure what the "sticky stuff" was but it resembled syrup if that gives you any idea of what kind of mess I was dealing with. My phone messed up so I lost the pictures I took of it before I cleaned the case. But oh boy was it a mess!

This Isn't Red 1, Red 2...or a hit film. Just OK.
Much love to Bruce and the other well known actors...but this one is just barely okay, and I'm sure a lot of folks will rate it worse. Though I do like to find a silver lining in any cloud. Bruce is aging, and I can appreciate that aspect of his career. For example, the Red films were outstanding. They had the right blend of humor, vibrancy, and action meets older life experience/wisdom. There, each of the actors enhanced the offering. Here, the pacing dragged and a good portion of the supporting cast was not helpful. Then we have the local flavor of Venice Beach, which never really meshed with Bruce's character. I also wasn't a fan of the depiction of the LBGT culture...which seemed overly weighted to a mocking darker side. I suppose they were going for laughs, but it just seemed sad. Everything from Bruce riding in his birthday suit on a skateboard, the drug dealers who were neutered (figuratively), the dog angle with a pet who really doesn't seem to mind being without his owner, to John Goodman's portrayal of a depressed surfing legend...this one went astray. In the Red movies, there is still a sense of danger, a feeling that folks will die if they don't take things seriously. Here, it's like Bruce was phoning it in, and walking into one disaster after the next with little concern. As far as positives, I appreciated some of the quirky characters, and Jason Momoa as Spider was entertaining. Famke Jannsen is so damn talented, and still eye candy, and yet, she was utterly wasted in this movie. Given Bruce's career, he is entitled to the occasional miss. This is it. Hope his next offering rocks!

Bruce Willis funny detective!
Willis is supposedly the only private investigator in Venice California. He has a very quirky assistant. He is hired to investigate who is painting graffiti on a building that the owner wants to sell to Chinese investors at a huge selling price. Willis agrees to investigate if the owner agrees to give him his mothers previous home. His dog is kidnapped and is taken by a drug lord, played by Jason Mamoa. Funny scenes where Willis supposedly nude escapes and is discovered by former police, his weapon is hid in a very awkward body spot. Goodman plays a friend who owns a shop selling sports equipment. Together they have to get drugs to return to Mamoa who will give Willis back his dog.

This movie is fantastic. Bruce Willis
This movie is fantastic. Bruce Willis, plays a good guy, with toughness and great humor. Of course having John Goodman , as a side kick doesn.t hurt. It all starts when some young guys steal his dog for drugs. Which angers him, take anything you want, but not his dog. The fun starts when he begins to search for his dog buddy. The dog is so likeable he is stolen by a different group of bad guys. who trade him off to other bad guys. Who will give back his dog, if he finds who stole their drugs. Which leads him on a journey filled with humor, .
