Must read!
I was tiring of this genre when I came across this book. The reviews however were so fab I was like why not. I started reading it with little expectation but was blown away by the characters and thoroughly enjoyed it totally recommend!

The Wolf and the Dove
I gave up on this book two thirds of the way through which goes a long way to explain my exasperation with it particularly after the 5* reviews. Whilst we are all prepared to suspend belief to a certain extent in this genre this stretches credibility too far! The initial premise is interesting - the fate of the daughter of a Saxon Lord slain in battle by supporters of William the Conqueror and her subsequent relationship with her captor. The early part showing how she copes with the takeover of the castle is interesting. But soon the characters are reduced to caricatures: the mad mother; the embittered half sister; the former betrothed etc, etc. Our heroine is a 20th Century stereotype - strong willed but swift to anger and petulance and so very concerned with her honour. Ditto our handsome rugged hero who is one dimensional and too wooden to generate sustained interest despite the continuous references to his assets. The dialogue is full of jarring americanisms. Since when - in 11th century England - would a Knight have said to a maiden "Is all well with you? You look fit?". Don't bother! Instead check out the masters of historical romantic fiction - Georgette Heyer, Mary Balogh, Lisa Kleypas, Stella Riley and others who fully research their period!

The best of historical romantic literature.
This writer is brilliant! I read books of all genres and yes this is a romantic novel. But that isn't all it is. The characters are so clearly drawn, you see them feel them, empathise. Even the less likable characters have depth and their reasoning is believable. The plot weaves itself around a turbulent time in history, the setting and historical turbulence of the time skilfully explored and described, enabling pictures to be conjured in the minds eye, losing the reader to a story of ,drama, thrills and romance. I read this novel many years ago. It is still one of my favourites. Some of miss Woodiwiss's novels are not worthy of her talent. Eg, the elusive flame. But this and others The Flame and the Flower, Shanna, So Worthy my love are well rounded wonderful reads. I just wish this novelist would be more prolific and all her books on par with this one

Kathleen Woodiwiss Queen of romance!!
I remembered reading "Wolf and the Dove" aged 17 and absolutely loving it! So I decided to re-read it at age 55!! I found it to be the perfect romance story but Woodiwiss takes it one step further. You feel you are living and breathing the time and the place! The hero and heroine are both wonderful and inspiring! The perfect read for anyone who loves romance!

Love this book
I first read this book about 30 odd years ago. I loved it then and I love it still. I forgot the title of the book and the author but never the story. I was overjoyed when I came across in the kindle store. The main characters are both likable strong individuals who work well together and who you are routing for throughout. Fantastic romance with just the right level of domination by the male lead that allows you to see through to his good points without your feminist side screaming at you.

My favourite book of all time !
I can't tell how many times I have read this book over the years, many years! I just love the time period and it is such a good love story.I would recommend this to anyone who likes a GOOD historical novel with indepth characters and even to those who just like a feel good story. Who knows why we like one book over another? Personal choice really but as all Kathleen Woodiwiss fans will tell you, she really know how to get her characters and their feelings across.Buy it, enjoy, you will not be disappointed in the least. Hope you love it as much as I do.
