Extras: Deutscher und englischer Trailer, Amerikanische Fernsehfassung auf Bonus-DVD, Audiokommentar von Regisseur Fraser C. Heston, Making of (ca. 6 Minuten), Hinter den Kulissen (ca. 5 Minuten) Review: NEEDFUL THING BLURAY REGION "A"" from KINO LORBER - As another reviewer stated - Please note - This is a region "A" and will require a multi region player (why do we still have regions when multi players are so available and pretty cheap) On this BLURAY from KINO LORBER version you get a choice of "Theatrical Cut" 120 or the extende 190 minute TV cut. That is the one we watched. In the past I found that 3 hr TV versions are the best for KING. This is very good indeed. Never boring though the action is intermittent (when it comes it is pretty violent), but it is the acting, dialogue and Heston's direction that keeps you watching (and the plot of course. Ed harris is just rigt as trouble sheriff of castle Rock, in love with Polly (Bonnie Bedlia. All seems like an ordinary small American town until Leland Gaunt (Von Sydow) opensn antique shop "Needful Things" from there on things go from bad to very bad. The climax is a triumph of filming and stunt work. The BLURAY is excellent quality (though a somewhat surprising 4.3 ratio), good sound, and optional subtitles. Extras not seen by me. Lovers o adaptations of King's novels should find little if anything to complain about. The disc isn't rated, but I would class it "15" cert for some of the violence and the general mood of the film. Review: Needful things - One of the best movies based on s king books

One of the best movies based on s king books

A reasonable adaptation, though not as good as the book.
It's always risky making a film based on a popular book. The story may be good enough to carry the film, but those who enjoyed the book will often think it pales in comparison. With Needful Things they've managed to do a more than reasonable job, though for me it does have it's flaws. The main one is that everything just feels rushed. Needful Things is a fairly long book, so inevitably fitting it all into a two hour movie is mission impossible. Compromises have been made in the story, the cast and the character development. That said, if your only experience of Needful Things is the movie then you probably wouldn't notice anything being awry. The story is perfectly coherent and the acting is good throughout, especially Max von Sydow as Leland Gaunt. Overall it's well worth a watch, whether you've read the book or not.

Absolutely beautiful Mediabook of a Stephen King Classic
This is a German Mediabook release so it is in German but has an English language track and there are no hardcoded subs so no need for worries on having to avoid text while you watch if that bothers you. I won't go into details about the film as if you are reading the reviews you already know the film probably or you are a Stephen King fan and definitely know the plot. The booklet is in German but is informative even if you need a translation app to read it, the three hour version produced for the American market is also included but on DVD and is a slightly different and equally enjoyable experience, there is also a directors commentary and some background material along with some stills and promotional material too. I got this because I am both a Stephen King fan and because I really love these Mediabooks as such love goes into them to make them look really unique and they make a great addition to any collection.

not bad - a bit clunky...
the characters weren't as good as I expect from a Stephen King story - not sure if that was the actors or the script...par for the course the devil made them do it but kind of next one along not directly...it was okay. Kinda silly / fun / 3 out of 5
