Raven Guard or Shrike fan? You will enjoy this.
I really enjoyed this book. Raven Guard is one of my fav legions, and from the small descriptions we had gotten of Shrike before, I really enjoyed the character. His design is pretty cool too. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars, is because I can't hand this book to someone to read, assuming they knew nothing about warhammer 40k. I also had a problem with the book being 3 smaller books essentially or really big chapters. Shrike's character though felt as developed as a space marine gets honestly. Space Marines arent known for their hopes and dreams, and goals are generally to serve Big E. I liked it and if you like Raven guard or just Shrike like I did coming in, you will enjoy this.

Comic book without graphics.
Disappointed by book as I was expecting a little more. Lacks depth. Written at an elementary school or comic book level which may have been the intent. The book is a series of short vignettes with long gaps between.

Shadow warrior
Shrike is part of the Space Marines Legend series. It tells the story of a Raven Guard and his ascension over the years from young apprentice to Chapter Master and, should the book be limited to that, there would be little in it to make it stand out and original. There are however some original elements. One is the description of the Raven Guards rites of passage, and their ability to be almost invisible in the forest of their home world and to merge with their surroundings in order to catch the Raven that will allow them to pass the ultimate test. Another is the secret that Shrike and the two apprentices that graduated with him bear for decades, a secret that lays on his conscience. The third point is the ever dangerous and super-powerful Ork warlord who happens to be Shrike’s sworn enemy. While the story has the usual of (general good) battles and desperate fights to the finish, I somehow did not manage to raise much enthusiasm for it. Somehow, the character of Shrike never really came alive and the whole story, despite some great sections, was somewhat bland. Three stars as a result.

Characters aren’t particularly well fleshed-out and are lacking depth, as is the narrative. Not great overall, but not bad either.

I thought this was quite a boring read. Could have been a lot better and had more content and character development.

Short and sweet
Short and sweet, don’t expect your more typically in-depth Warhammer novel but something quicker to read that gives good back ground to a well known character and still has a lot of action.

Fantastic book
Really amazing book focusing on one faction and in turn, specific persons within the faction and how they rose to where they are in the lore. Well written.
