It Will Take Some Practice and Patience, but for Permanent Hair Removal Its Worth It.
This product came with everything but the 9 volt battery. The instruction pamphlet was descriptive, short and straight to the point. Its safe to operate because you are in control of the dial. It ranges from 1 to 10. I started off on a one and was able to work my way up to three within a couple of hairs. *Just make sure your not using it while soaking your feet, in the tub, or any other place where theres a basin of water. The set up is simple. Ive listed a few tips and things to look out for. To get started make sure your area is clear and your environment is free of distractions. You will need to focus on being precise for this. If you have some alcohol go ahead and wipe your pen, stylet, and tweezers down. Next youll want to put in your battery and prepare your salt water. I decided to wash my hands and face and pat dry with a clean paper towel. But you can get started as long as your hands are clean and your tools are sterile. The first thing you’ll want to look for is a beeping sound. I didnt see a whole lot of descriptions addressing this. It means that the pen is delivering an electrical current. The trick is to make sure that you feel a “tingling” or a “pulsing” sensation. This lets you know youre directing the current towards the follicle. This device works by zapping the follicles blood supply to prevent regrowth. When Done Correctly, Hair Removal IS PERMANENT! Lastly, you want to make sure to feel a tingling sensation and not stinging. If the skin is turning dark around the hair but no fluid is released from pore, you may be burning your skin. If this happens just remove your stylet (micro needle) from your skin and reinsert in a different position until you feel that tingling/pulsing sensation. Remember to be gentle, not only for your skin but also for your stylet, the needle is very small and delicate. You may bend or break it without great care. In the event it feels uncomfortable, its okay, just turn down the dial until you can handle it. If you dont get it within a couple of tries just be patient with yourself. You’ve probably had that hair for a long time, giving yourself a couple of days to find your groove is perfectly fine. You’ve already taken the first step by doing something about it. Becoming impatient with this device will cause you to burn your skin. If youre not trying to draw more attention to the area, its best to give yourself a little more time. Just make sure when youre done to do some after care with some non-comedogenic products. After your sessions you can apply a light moisturizer, but avoid the area you treated if there are exposed pores. If you must to go out, apply sunscreen!! This product delivers permanent results, and is an excellent trade for such a small price. If you are tired of waxing, picking, and plucking, then this is the device for you!

Exceedingly poor product.
Does not work. I tried to use this device, off and on, for about 3 weeks, and other than the 1st day I couldn't get it to actually work while it was in my skin / hair follicle. The instructions are 100% CRAP! There is ZERO mention of the sound that is makes when it is "active". ( Had to read other reviews to learn that. ) Instructions didn't say that I should touch the "window" with my other hand that ALSO was supposed to have salt water on it. ( Had to read the "Troubleshooting" guide here on Amazon to learn that tidbit. ) The unit I had, also would trigger / sound even when the dial was turned to the 0 setting. Which, to anyone with 2 brain cells, would indicate that the unit is OFF / won't function. LOL The "storage" for the cord ( under the tray ) is a huge pain in the butt to get the cord out of, and an even bigger pain to put back. I cannot fault the tips for being fragile, as that is just the nature of a device like this. However, the stylus that you hold seems to NOT make the connection when one is holding it. But if you touch the stylus to the "window", magically it makes its sound. Maybe it is my skin type, or maybe I am just an idiot, or maybe I just got a bad unit. Either way, it is not worth keeping. I was prepared to "go the distance" with it, and diligently work my way around the areas of my body that I wanted to do. But when it takes 20 minutes just to get a random "buzzing" sound, and it wasn't even in my skin.... just nope.

Works but must be used with a lot of caution!
So I got this to mostly to remove a uni-brow that's been bugging me for years. The good news is that it works, however you have to be extremely cautious specially around the face. One possible side effect of electrolysis is pitting of the skin (where it creates little craters that look like acne scars). I started with the 4 darkest hairs in my uni-brow and they all caused damage to the skin. Lucky because they were far enough from each other, my skin healed and closed the mini pits. I was freaking out for a few weeks though because they were very noticeable till they healed. With that said I'm having to wait a few months for it to completely heal before I go back for the rest so I don't risk pitting. Now the reason I think I damaged my skin is because of the product design. With this device you don't place the needle in, and then zap; it starts working as soon as it makes contact with the hair follicle. Meaning the product is always on. Because the needle is so thin, and you have to slide it in with the hair, it can be very hard to get the right angle. This is specially true if you're using a mirror or happen to have shaky hands at the time. The pen also has to be held a certain way to work which only makes it more difficult. I can imagine treating say leg hairs or even a bikini area as being far easier, but since the device's needle must go in with the hair, you got to be able to see it and this might mean getting magnifying glass stand. In all, if you have hair where you can't reach or even very dense hair areas, this is likely not a good choice of product. At the end of the day to make it work you'll need a lot of visibility, patience, and time. If you have that, then you can make this work.

It works.
It does work. Which was almost a surprise to me, as it is the only option for at home electrolysis and under $40. The other options are machines that are spa/professional and cost thousands. So huge gap in price. Yes, it hurts but I had professional electrolysis on my legs when in my late teens so expected it and for me is worth what I know the payoff to be - you will never see that hair again. So, regular bi-weekly/monthly pain at let’s say 3-4 for waxing/epilator/laser vs one time pain at 7 and never again. Also, electrolysis IS the only fda approved method for permanent hair removal for all hair/skin types and combos, which laser is Not. Electrolysis doesn’t care what’s the color of your skin and hair, it simply kills the root. You can get regrowth only if the root is not sufficiently damaged so do it right/long enough the first time to avoid having to do it again. All other hair is not regrowth, it’s just different hairs that grow in different cycles so you will have to do those when they come up. Read up on hair biology and cycles, know what to expect. Must follow instructions, regularly dampen your fingers and endure the pain long enough to kill the root. I put a shallow bowl of water and salt near, dip my fingers and then briefly touch on a paper towel. A BRIGHTLY LIGHTED magnifying glass or mirror (depending on if you are doing body or face) is a must. You need to see what you are doing. Insertion of the tip doesn’t hurt, it’s way thinner than a needle; the electric current that activates automatically when inserted hurts. My pain tolerance is relatively high so I personally prefer higher intensity on the dial for shorter time, so for me most hairs will be ‘cooked’ in 5-10 seconds vs the lower intensity for 15+ seconds. Still, each hair is different and some have stronger roots than others and can take longer. The hair root is ‘cooked’ only when you can easily slide out the hair. Not pull, pluck, etc., just slide out gently without resistance. Their tweezers suck btw, use your own. To note: during operation, there is a tiny bead of milky liquid that can form at the insertion point. That’s perfectly normal, gently wipe it off the tip before doing the next hair. Cons: the loud buzzer sound it makes, I wish I could turn it off. Improvements would be: buzzer off option, button activation vs automatic, better cable management and better materials and case overall, shorter ‘pen’ (sometimes you need to get closer to see and the pen is in the way), plug in option (as is, it uses 1 9V battery which is Not included). I would gladly pay double for a product with those features. Still, 5 stars because it does work and the only alternatives are in the thousands of dollars. Wouldn’t recommend for those that want to do areas that are difficult to get close to either with a mirror or magnifying glass - you need to see clearly where you are inserting the tip to be effective. TIP- if your tap water is hard, use distilled water for the salt-water mix. I was wondering why the skin on my fingers was getting stained rusty brown and thought it may be from the water minerals/impurities oxidizing. Tried it with distilled water and no stained fingers!

Works okay, then stops.
I have such a love-hate relationship with this product. The good: it's cheap and once you zap a hair it doesn't grow back. Now the bad: my main complaint is it just kind of stopped working. It worked reliably at first. Then it started cutting out sporadically, and working on-again off-again. Now it just seems like it's toast. No amount of wiggling or messing around seems to help anymore. The other main complaints are that it is tedious and slow and pretty uncomfortable. There are some other annoyances such as: the included tweezers are useless, the tip is super hard to disassemble if you need to replace the electrode, and if the electrode isn't perfectly straight it's nearly impossible to get it back into the tiny tip. I could live with that, though. Because it works well enough that I WANT to keep using it. But, I guess I burned it out or something. I just feel like if they put a little more thought or labor into it so that the design wasn't as cumbersome, and more importantly, the thing didn't just randomly quit after a couple of months, it would be a five star product. Now it's just kinda "meh".

If only the on and off dial worked correctly!
I had a machine like this decades ago and it worked great. Since it's a long gone after a series of moves, I decided to buy this one. The problem is it turns itself on even when the dial is at zero and it applies electricity to the outside of your skin when you're trying to insert the probe, causing irritation. It's not supposed to apply electricity until you have it inserted down into the hair follicle and you turn it on. I returned the machine and thanks to Amazon was sent another one to try. So disappointed to say that the second one had the same problem with the on/off dial! I'm hoping the company can correct the problem, maybe I'll give them another try in several months to see if it works the way it should. The device will effectively kill the hair root as long as it's only turned on when it is inserted. I tried to call the 800 number listed in the booklet and unfortunately it was a disconnected number!

Not very effective
I am disappointed by this product, like most of the other reviewers, but i found that it did arrive in good condition, didn't require too much set up, and does actually function. It is VERY difficult to actually kill the hair follicle with this product. I have only been successful in actually doing this to probably 5-10% of hairs that I've removed with it (even after quite a bit of practice). I found that, in order for it be somewhat effective, it has to be turned up to at least 8 on the power dial and you have to leave the probe in the skin for at least 15-30 seconds.... which destroyed my skin, caused lots of scabbing, and took way too much time. A professional machine (and someone trained to use it) only requires the probe be in the skin for a few seconds at most. I would highly recommend not purchasing this product... if you can afford to get electrolysis done by a professional, then do that instead!

It really works
This is a simple product that is very effective. Many, many years ago I found this product in one of the pharmacies I frequented. And then, they were no longer being sold. So, I was thrilled to find the very same product online. I am in agreement with the last positive review that it is effective but just takes a little patience at first. The instructions are accurate and simple to follow though it's true they don't mention a sound that emanates from the device when the electric current has found the follicle and is working. My one gripe is that the machine I received takes a while, once I've turned it on, (I now turn the dial to number five) to start kicking in. Other machines may kick in more quicly. For me, It can take a while. If I were a new user to the product I would absolutely believe that it didn't work and understand some of those who say it doesn't. But, it does and will. And don't be afraid, either. You really can't hurt yourself. If your skin does burn a little from the current it's very minor and goes away quickly. Just practice, be patient, it's easier than it might seem. Insert the needle as closely to the hair as possible and in the direction of the hair growth. If the machine doesn't start making its high pitched beep just wait and try again. It will eventually kick in. Each hair follicle has three life cycles but you will notice after a couple of hair removals that the hair begins to come in much finer. when your done, turn off the current and with a cotton ball and alcohol clean the needle and the metal bit you're meant to hold with your fingers.
