A Grateful Discovery: Real Rice Back in My Life
As someone originally from Indonesia, rice has always been more than just a food—it’s been a comfort, a tradition, and a daily staple. Even after living in the United States for over two decades, nothing satisfies me quite like a bowl of rice. However, for almost ten years, I had to give it up due to concerns over my blood glucose levels. Despite trying countless varieties marketed as “healthy” or “low glycemic,” none worked for me—until recently.I had the opportunity to speak with Professor Herry Utomo, F. Avalon Daggett Endowed Professor at Louisiana State University, whose groundbreaking research led to the development of a low glycemic index rice. With cautious optimism, I accepted his kind offer to try a sample of the rice he developed: Parish Rice, which is available on Amazon. To my amazement, it worked. I experienced no significant spike in my glucose levels after eating it—something I hadn’t been able to say for nearly a decade. Thanks to Professor Utomo’s dedication and innovation, I can now enjoy real rice again as part of a balanced diet. This rice is not only a scientific achievement but a life-enhancing gift to those of us who have missed this simple joy for far too long. I couldn’t be more grateful.Thank you, Professor Utomo, for bringing rice back into my life.

Tasty rice, bought it because diabetes
Delicious rice, it does have instructions written on the bag as well, which i love. I do find it does need a little extra liquid (i use chicken stock) and slightly longer than instructions given. Sturdy bag and shipped in a clear bag so its easy to not rip the actual bag.As a diabetic is still does spike me...but not as bad as regular rice. (And we tend to eat ALOT of rice)

Awesome texture and flavor
This is our favorite rice with! We visit Louisiana often so I usually find it in the store there and stock up. When I can’t, I order on here. We rinse this rice and cook in a rice cooker and it comes out perfect every time. Light and fluffy with great flavor! I wish it was a bit more cost prohibitive on Amazon but I’ll pay more to get in Fl.

This is wonderful rice.
This is wonderful rice. The grains are meaty and have a smooth texture that is never gummy or gritty. It's perfect for all the Cajun dishes I make as well as on its own. I am from Acadiana and love good rice. Parish Rice is the best I've ever had.

Good, not great
I write this review as someone who typically cooks with basmati, koshihikari, or jasmine rice, so your impressions may differ. Regarding aroma and flavor this rice is not very different than most generic white rices. I typically rinse rice before cooking to remove excess starch from the kernels, and this rice rinsed clean immediately - perhaps due to the higher protein content? It took slightly longer to fully cook, about 22 minutes versus 20 for one cup in two cups of water. The cooked kernels were distinct and had a pleasant tooth - definitely not mushy. We decided that this rice would be best for "sopping-up" when topped with stews or red beans, or an ingredient in dishes like jambalaya. It isn't flavorful enough to stand on its own.

World's Best Rice
The best rice around. I fell in love with this rice during a recent trip to New Orleans but stores here in Alabama don't sell it.

Higher protein
This rice is higher in protein than other rice. Does not spike my blood glucose.
