Product Description A fantastic marriage of state-of-the-art computer technology, thrilling live action, and breathtaking ingenuity, " Dinotopia" emerges as one of the most ambitious and technically advanced projects in the history of television. While flying on holiday with their estranged father, Karl (Tyron Leitso) and David (Wentworth Miller) find themselves in unexpected bad weather, which sends their plane crashing to the shores of Dinotopia. In this fantastic lost world, built upon long-established principles of mutual respect, humans and dinosaurs peacefully coexist. The two brothers are as astounded by the benevolent creatures as they are enraptured by Marion (Katie Carr), the mayor's beautiful precocious daughter who welcomes them both to the wonders of Dinotopia. However, harmony does not prevail everywhere. Just beyond Dinotopia's capital, Waterfall City, are deadly carnivores that pose a constant threat to the delicate balance of nature. Equally dangerous are human outlaws such as Cyrus Crabb (David Thewlis), a pirate descendant who shuns the Dinotopian codes. But there is no greater concern than the mysterious failing of the sunstones, which power all of Dinotopian life. With the help of a brilliant (and multilingual) Stenonychosaurus named Zippo, Karl and David embark on a daring mission as the last hope for the prehistoric Eden they now call home. Constructed as one of the largest sets in the history of London's Pinewood Studios, with ground breaking special effects by the award-winning team at FrameStore, there has never been anything quite like "Dinotopia." Based on James Gurney's hugely popular books, adapted by Simon Moore and directed by action specialist Marco Brambilla, this is truly a mega-series that could only come from Hallmark Entertainment. .com Kids will love this sweeping story of two brothers whose plane crashes on a mysterious island called Dinotopia, where human beings live in harmony with dinosaurs--the herbivores, anyway. The carnivores present a problem, as the humans' defenses against them--a mystical power source called sunstones--are losing strength. As they try to save the island, Carl and David (Tyron Leitso and Wentworth Miller) struggle not only with tyrannosaurs and prehistoric crocodiles, but also with repressive Dinotopian traditions and a scheming malcontent (David Thewlis) who stirs up all kinds of trouble. Meanwhile, they also wrestle with each other over the lovely daughter of the mayor of Waterfall City (Katie Carr). The pacifist ideals of Dinotopia are refreshing, but it's the special effects that will hook viewers: riding on the backs of brachiosaurs, flying atop pteranadons, arguing in court with triceratops and ankylosaurs--anyone fascinated with dinosaurs (and who isn't?) will enjoy this whimsical fantasy. A host of British character actors also helps keep the human side of this four-hour miniseries lively; Alice Krige (also known as the Borg Queen in Star Trek: The Next Generation) gets a much more benevolent role here. --Bret Fetzer

A wonderful fantasy!
If you're foolish enough to look closely, you'll see different themes from different movies. (Just a tiny hint of "Lost Horizon" for one) But this is a wonderful, fun, exciting, fantasy in it's own right. An adventure with talking reptiles who have terrific personalities may sound silly and even childish, but this series pulls it off with flying colors. I'm an old guy not given to kids shows, but I loved this one... give it a watch.

I loved it. It was utterly enjoyable.
It was beautifully made, good cast with Alice Krieg and Colin Salmon. There's something about a drama with a humorous character to give it that lift and it was Zipeau for me. He's just adorable. Would love to see more movies like this - good clean movies. I hope you watch it. I believe you'll like it.

A Brilliant Movie
An absolutely amazing movie. Whilst lengthy, I think it's wonderful for a great time watching something, kind of like watching Lord of the Ring. There is so many different details along the journey of this movie that thrill and amaze you.I honestly love the human dinosaur interactions throughout the movie. Meeting Zippo was a great time, and the many different interactions with the boys was wonderful. Also, meeting Cyrus Krab (AKA the actor who plays Lupin in HP 3, Prisoner of Azkaban) is also an interesting experience. Having all the many different angles to the movie as well as the amazing story that unfolds through it really makes it a one of a kind movie, and one that I never get tired of watching.I'm honestly surprised with the amount of people who made this movie possible in that the ending credits were not that long at all, meaning that the amount of people who went into it was a shorter list then you'd expect. From a smaller group of people came a brilliantly done movie full of such imagination and creativity.I would highly recommend this movie to anyone as this is a treasure of a find. It is well worth the time to watch.I hope others get to enjoy this movie as well as I have. Thanks for reading.

5 Stars and no complaints!
I ordered this item last week with some hesitance. I had read other reviews for the miniseries and a few people said when they ordered the TV miniseries from Amazon they didn't get the right DVD's and instead got the DVD's of a different movie version of dinotopia in the miniseries DVD case. This wasn't a problem from Amazon but a problem from the distributing companies. I am happy to say I think this matter has been resolved because upon receiving my copy today both of the disks were correct. I had first seen this miniseries quite a few years ago when it aired on ABC. I was delighted when I found it on Amazon as I didn't know it had even come out on DVD or video. When I got it today I watched it right away because it was such a long time since I had seen it. I also wanted to make sure the disks were right because some of the reviews on Amazon had mentioned a DVD mix up. I am happy to say both DVD's were correct and were in great condition since I ordered the DVD as new and not used. I am happy with Amazons shipping and packaging and was surprised at how fast my order came. I am happy that I now own such a great miniseries/movie. I give this product 5 stars because I don't have a single complaint. I am so glad Amazon seems to have resolved the DVD mix up problems and I am glad I went ahead and ordered this great miniseries/movie.

Well Done Fantasy Except for Man-Bashing
All the male characters are vastly inferior to the female characters. The Mayor is a bumbling fool who is separated from his all-knowing and wise wife. The two male protagonists fall short, the one lacking courage, the other lacking compassion, humility and perseverance. But the female characters have it all together and teach those foolish males when they are willing to listen and learn. Four stars for a completely entertaining fantasy without foul language, profanity or sex. Not suitable for the very young due to frightening scenes. Pantheist and vegan themes.

Wonderful!
I just finished watching the Dinotopia miniseries with my boyfriend (both in our 30's). I had originally purchased the DVD of the TV series for him for Christmas after seeing parts of it while it was being played for our friends' children but we both felt that we were missing details of the story. I did not realize that the TV series was a continuation of the story started by the miniseries until I started reading the reviews on Amazon. We split the 4 hour movie up over 2 or 3 days. The scenery and special effects were amazing and better than what I expected them to be. Having never read the books, I cannot comment on how true to the original story the movie was but I thoroughly entertained from start to finish. We both felt that the movie might be too scary at times for very young viewers. However, there are valuable moral lessons taught within the movie so parents might want to watch it with their children and discuss it afterwards. This DVD is a must have in the home library of families with children and adults who like to occasionally escape to a fantasy land with beautiful scenes and an entertaining story.
