Complete Failure on Amazon's Part
Bought the 360 day prepaid plan over a month ago. I have yet to receive an activation code in my message center even though on the Amazon web page for this ithem it states: "Activation code received via Amazon messages within 1 business day of your SIM kit shipment". After over twenty hours in the chat help, with promises of pushing this problem to the next level, I still have not been given an activation code. Fellow Amazon customers , you have been warned. Otherwise I have had no problems with the Red Pocket service.

Porting may be troublesome but can be done
Here is the story of porting a number from Total Wireless over to Red Pocket.I first tried using the webpage, and to no surprise got "Error requested port in number is currently in VZW inventory and cannot be ported in".Call to Red Pocket telling them about the error: the guy tells me I have to call Total Wireless and get them to help. (geez.. thanks for not helping, dude)Call to Total Wireless: The lady tells me I have to buy a new "bring your own phone" SIM card from Total Wireless for my new phone. (I am like.. for real??)Call to Total Wireless to ask the account number: Lady says the account number is the IMEI of the old phone.Another call to Total Wireless to ask them to release the number: The lady says the number is already released.Call to Red Pocket (this time I just act stupid and say I need help activating service and don't even mention any issues): The nice lady asks for all the numbers and discovers that they do not have the correct account number, nor do they have the PIN. (The website never asks for the PIN, so many attempts to port via the website are likely doomed from the start). So I give the correct account number and the correct PIN, then she says that things went through and the number is 'waiting for release', and suggests I call Total Wireless to get them to release the number. So I say I already called them and the number is already released. So she says please hold and she will refresh her page. After a short wait, she says things really went through and has me call 611 as a test. (New phones are not activated fully until a call is made and a number pressed on the keypad)The things we learn from this story:1. If one person is unhelpful, just call back and get a different person.2. It is easier to let them discover the problem instead of trying to explain it to them.3. Don't give up.4. Don't believe everything you are told.

Big savings worth the tiny hiccups
I don't think Red Pocket works QUITE as smoothly as the high-priced plan I used to carry--occasionally, a text message fails for no reason that I can see and now and then I'll suddenly get a whole batch of texts that seems to have been waiting out in the ether for some reason--but considering how much money I'm saving, it's worth a few hiccups. If you live and die by your phone, fine: Maybe it's worth paying out the nose for your phone service. But anytime I feel frustrated, I add up the amount of money I'm saving per year (I was paying $1200/year for phone service for me and my husband, and now I'm paying $300). For almost $1000/year, I'll deal with occasional issues. If you're nervous about how well it will work for you, start with a 30-day plan. That's a really inexpensive experiment.

Recommend no. . .just no
This company does not appear to be American-based--which set us up for all kinds of language difficulties when trying to get the help we needed. . .again, again, and again. The card was difficult to set up--even for my computer engineer husband. Without him, I'd have just returned it. Voice mail: Another round of "doesn't work, need help." Set up for "auto-renew," but it didn't. Finally, after a year of one thing after another, we simply went back to our old carrier. Won't make the Red Pocket mistake again.

Cheap yes, but you pay dearly for that
I have been a customer of Red Pocket for 1.5 years. Ok, the initial porting was hell, they sent the wrong sim and tried to charge me again to get the correct one. I noticed that they now send all three in the annual plan so I suspect I was not the only one who had this issue. Their customer support is unbelievably bad, inconceivably bad. Like many things in life once you have enough pain invested in something and it finally works you want to get some longevity to warrant the pain. So, I just bought another year. My plan isn't up for a few weeks but I wanted to make sure I didn't get interrupted but they will not let you install the sim until your old plan expires or you lose your previous balance. So, now I need to be aware of the countdown, install the next sim and hope to heck that it works. I am rethinking my "investment" in this hack company. But it is cheap.

GSMA sim does not support group messages on iPhone.
Beware that you will not be able to send or receive group messages with an iPhone on ATT if anyone in the group is on android. Red Pocket cannot or will not help with this. Also no pictures in messages on the iPhone. Group messages worked fine on other ATT mvno services I have used before. If you have an iPhone your options are to switch to android or use one of the other networks.
