This mounting surface fit completely flush against the siding and was easy to prep thanks to the guide grooves. Only downside is that the additional thickness of the part meant I needed longer screws for the bracket for the outdoor light. Easy fix and great results.

I have steel siding. An exterior light got sheared off when a strong wind broke the safety chain on a storm door. I tried a bunch of different fixes to re-attach a light to the siding, including copious amounts of silicon sealant. Nothing worked and wasps kept making nests behind the light fixture. An electrician recommended cutting a big portion of the siding away to make a box for light fixtures. When I had a guy come out to look at doing so, he told me to look on Amazon because there has to be a product to address this. The mounting block fit the contours of my siding really well and only needed a thin bead of silicon to fill in the gap. The light fixture mounted to it well. Have had it up for about a month with no issues at all.

This plate eventually worked as needed to mount a standard light fixture on siding without cutting out for the box, but it was a challenge. The interior is completely hollow so the face of the plate deflected in towards the wall of the building. It needed some support behind the plate to keep it flat. Also, be prepared to spend some time to find longer mounting screws for the light fixture. The thickness of the mounting plate made the originals about 3/16" too short. After some fabrication it worked but I never did manage to get the face of the mounting plate completely flat. Had to use silicone to seal gaps at the fixture base on the sides.

This couldn’t have been more what we were looking for. When you have siding, it can be tough to mount one of these video door bells. They either are crooked or look weird. But thanks to this, it fits perfectly flush and looks absolutely amazing. We’ve had several people either ask us where we got it or even who we got to professionally install it. Very high quality product, easy to install and looks amazing. Highly recommended!

I’ll add some clarity I felt the description, questions, and other reviews were lacking. The back has grooved sections to make it easier to cut out a circle or rectangle. The hole in the center provides a place your saw can start from. I found that if you cut out a wedge from the center, you could then snap out the circle bit by bit without actually having to make a curved cut. The fit isn’t perfect with my fiber cement siding, but it’s close enough. It might fit more snuggly against vinyl. I have 1/2” lap and one person in the question section said that’s what this was so I went for it. It does appear to be 1/2, but the profile is more rounded at the corner and my siding has a sharper corner, hence the fit not being perfectly snug. Fortunately I’m using it under the eaves so water shouldn’t be an issue—this was more about aesthetics for me.

The backers are good quality - nicely finished and hefty. This review is really more a warning to folks who need them to back light fixtures that are already installed. If you have existing light fixtures already in place and the center pipe in the mounting bracket assembly does not extend at exactly the right spot relative to the siding lap, this product will not work. The hole is in the center of the backer. In our case, every light we tried to use one on was set just a little too high or low in the siding lap to be able to thread the back over the mounting pipe and seat the back against the siding lap. Just a snafu for us, but seems very possible it could be the case for other people. We may try expanding the hole or drilling a new on on a couple to see if we can achieve enough play get them up and seated properly without exposing the original punch out. I read back through reviews and noticed that many of the high marks are given for folks that used them for fixtures that have more flexibility behind the wall. Sensors, solar lights, etc. should work fine with these mounting plates and I will restate that they look nice and are good quality. Just beware if you need them for hardwired fixtures that have a heavier mounting bracket assembly.

Installed a solar light on this block on my daughter’s garage and worked out well.
